Not much of an update on Mrs. V., but here it is:
PAIN

The doctor gave her the strongest prescription he writes. I learned that when I called yesterday to ask for something stronger. They said no but they did call in something that kind of boosts the Percocet. She said it's helping.

But she can hardly sleep. It's a little better but the pain is still intense. Judging by her body language, I'd say it's an eight, frequently up to nine or ten.

I can't do enough for her, and I fear she's getting tired of being doted upon. She is very stubborn and is determined to do as much as possible by herself, but often she just can't do what she wants to do. It's driving her batshit crazy.

Thanks for listening.

5. Can you talk to a nurse about non-medical pain relief?
Do not do this without checking, but ask about hot packs, cold packs, raising the hand, whatever.

9. She's using ice packs and elevating it as much as she can.
But I'm still going to call the doc's office again tomorrow to ask for suggestions.

6. I'm really sorry to hear this, Bertha
All my best to Mrs. V, and to you, too, as caretaker. It isn't an easy place to be, either.

Any option for acupuncture or similar techniques for Mrs. V?

8. Pain stinks
If it's strictly located in just one area, any chance the provider can prescribe one of those electrical pain blockers? Many of my friends get great relief with those: we nurses get a lot of arm injuries.

I hope she feels better soon.
