2. I didn't realize she was that old
Edited on Sat Apr-25-09 02:57 PM by RFKHumphreyObama
"The Golden Girls" was always one of my favorite shows growing up and even now reduces me to hysterical laughter whenever the reruns come on. Bea Arthur made the character of Dorothy an absolute classic with her devastatingly sardonic and sarcastic wit and yet her compassion and empathy. She truly was a great actress and her passing is a great loss to the entertainment industry.

RIP Bea Arthur. My deepest and sincerest thoughts, prayers, condolences and sympathies go to your friends and family. You will be sadly missed by many:cry:

`Golden Girls' star Bea Arthur dies at 86

By LYNN ELBER – 9 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Beatrice Arthur, the tall, deep-voiced actress whose razor-sharp delivery of comedy lines made her a TV star in the hit shows "Maude" and "The Golden Girls" and who won a Tony Award for the musical "Mame," died Saturday. She was 86.

Arthur died peacefully at her Los Angeles home with her family at her side, family spokesman Dan Watt said. She had cancer, Watt said, declining to give further details.

"She was a brilliant and witty woman," said Watt, who was Arthur's personal assistant for six years. "Bea will always have a special place in my heart."

10. Dorothy was always my favorite Golden Girl
I always admire a fiesty smart ass. :) I remember reading that Bea Arthur was actually older than Estelle Getty (Sophia, Dorothy's mom). RIP Bea

11. She was one of my favorite actresses...
Unique, distinctive, and avant-garde and usually for the right reasons (social awareness).

18. Oh wow, she was terrific. I should see episodes of Maude again.
I was only 10 years old when it debuted, and while I thought it was funny, I'm sure there was a lot I didn't "get."

RIP, Bea.
