I finally bought my first Harry Potter. Talk me out of it.
I mean, I need to start reading another series like I need any number of additional holes in my head. Gimme spoilers (preferably made-up ones, since I really will be reading this) or persuade me that it can never hold a candle to the Earthsea series. Or some damn thing. (Seriously, I'm very much looking forward to it-- I hope.)

3. Be ready to do NOTHING until you read the final book
AND, be ready to talk about each chapter to people whose eyes will glaze over until you seek other Potter fanatics in book stores, on line, in forums....wherever, to keep your sanity.

4. Be careful ...
It might be best to take some vacation time :7

I found myself rereading earlier books prior to a new one coming and rereading books when the movie was about to come out.

Yep...I'll be reading the 6th book sometime in June in preparation for the movie!

Enjoy!

I find myself going - wow - that's what that was leading to.

5. Too much sex for my taste. I was troubled by the various teen pregnancies.
And I do not condone dog fighting in any form, so that of course was a problem, too.

6. Don't even bother... turns out there's no such thing as magic
In the final chapter of the final book it turns out that Harry is an autistic child and the whole series was just taking place in a snow globe. And THEN he wakes up in bed next to Bob Newhart!

And don't go telling me that Travis McGee was really 5'4 with inner ear issues that prevented him ever living on a boat.

I have never read the book, and I avoided it like the plague when the movies came out.

I'm in the mood for a great adventure. :)

That's some serious plotting there. No, they aren't great literature, but we enjoyed them immensely, and I suspect you will, too.

29. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!
The ending of the series isn't perfect, but it sure is better than the end of the Twilight series IMO. After you get so immersed in the books, you want an end that lives up to the hype. I will say that one battle in book seven does, and it might not be the one you expect.

28. Well, the first book is good. So is the second. After that, they take a major nose dive.
Edited on Fri May-01-09 08:06 PM by BlueIris
Because of how big the drop-off in quality is after Book 2, I've actually entertained the theory that Ms. Rowling stole the idea for the series from someone else. Not saying there's any evidence of this, (yet) but I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

If I were you, I'd think twice about wasting your time with a series that starts out wonderfully and then just crashes and burns.
