6. except for when I am on my bike, yes
I flipped a car at 70-ish mph without wearing one, and from that point on decided not to press my luck.

7. Seat belt use
I started wearing mine all the time when my oldest son was born. I wanted him and later his brother to always wear theirs and didn't want to have them do something and see me not doing the same.

8. My parents drilled it into me
From when I was old enough to sit up front it was always either wear the seat belt or sit in the back. And I wanted to sit up front... By the time I was old enough to drive, putting on my seat belt whenever I get into a car had become automatic...
Also my uncle might still be here if he had worn his...

16. And I make sure my son sits in the back - always.
At least in *my* Jeep. Apparently it's legal in NC for someone 5 or older to ride in the front if they're suitably restrained and in any necessary booster seat. Therefore my wife sometimes allows my son to ride up front in her vehicle. But not in mine. Stays in back until 13th birthday. Of course if there are no back seats then the rule doesn't apply (pick up trucks, back seats folded down hauling lots of stuff).

17. I posted this because I so often see accident reports that say, ".. was not wearing a seatbelt"
and I can't for the life of me fathom that. Not in this era.

When I grew up in the 70's, my parents did not strictly enforce seat belt use. But as soon as my oldest child was born in 1980, I buckled up and have remained so to this day. No one is allowed in my car without wearing one.

It would be easy to blame the non-seatbelt deaths on youth but the people you read about are all different ages.

It just seems like such a simple way to take a precaution.

got damn lucky and have never been without a seatbelt again. Yes, the kids are tired of hearing that story but as long as they're passengers or driving my cars they don't have a choice.
