For my 1,000th post I give you....pictures of my cats
Sorry these are such bad quality. Cell phone pics taken today May 5, 2009.

This is Elmer. He's 15 years old. His hobbies include eating, sleeping and chasing his own tail. He is pretty much my shadow, follows me everywhere :)

This is Sadie. She's the queen of all queens. She'll be 17 years old on May 18. She is my beautiful black velvet kitty. Her hobbies are being fabulous and ruling the roost. She's still got her thick winter fur, it's mahhhhvelous dahling :)

Soooo cute! One of mine is 16 1/2 (markings similar to Elmer). She is a frisky little thing to this day.

4. Thanks for the kind words
My cats have been a part of my life for a long time now. I was actually there at both of their births. They've been outside cats most of their lives but they do get to come in for spoiling sessions every day :)

6. They're so beautiful. But then, they're cats.
There are some ugly dogs, but not that many ugly cats. Maybe it's because they haven't been domesticated as long, so we haven't had as much time to turn them into genetically altered freaks.

Are Sadie and Elmer in good health? My Alice, pictured here in a playful mood, made it to 20 years and six months, so I hope your kitties still have years of love to give you.

She passed on back in June of last year, and I'm still going through pet withdrawal. I feel compelled to pet and bond with everyone's dogs and cats, and they instinctively know that I'm not going to harm them, so they allow me to scratch their ears or chuck them under the chin.

8. They're in pretty good health
Sadie is a little bit hard of hearing but overall she's fine. She always grows a really plush coat in the winter, I love to dig my fingers into it!

Elmer is techinically Sadie's great nephew. He's doing pretty good too. He's a lot thinner now then when he was younger which worries me but the vet says he's in good shape for a cat his age. :)

Your angel kitty is so sweet looking. She looks like Elmer's mom actually (she passed away last August). It's hard to say goodbye isn't it?

11. I hope Elmer's kidneys are OK.
My other cat, Arsenio, died of kidney failure at 13. He'd gone from 18 lb to only seven. Kidney damage can be ascertained through blood-work.

It is so very hard to say goodbye. But Alice was only sick for about two weeks. On the night she died, I held her in my arms and we looked into each other's eyes for a long time. Then she reached up and touched my cheek with her paw, and stopped breathing.

Here's her remarkable story of survival. My friend Hardie was out walking in Saskatchewan's Qu'Appelle valley one cold January morning with his girlfriend and their daughter and the daughter's husky. The husky went loping off through the snowbanks and came back a couple of minutes later with what looked like a bunch of snow in its mouth. The dog dropped the little white blob and they all realized it was a baby kitten that someone had left out in the cold to die. Well, THAT couldn't happen, so Hardie now had a pet cat. I used to go over to Hardie's apartment all the time and Alice really took a shine to me, so when Hardie decided to hitchhike out to the west coast to live, he gave her to me. You don't take a cat hitchhiking with you -- a dog, yes, but a cat, no. Anyway, for a kitty that almost perished at three weeks of age, Alice lived a good, long time. She was the most good-natured cat I ever met, and she loved everyone. And everyone loved her right back.

15. Awww you made me cry, RIP sweet Alice
Yeah I hope Elmer's not on the decline. He got a little skinny last summer but he fattened up when winter came. I'll ask the vet about kidneys the next time we're at the vet. He's prome to ear yuck (I don't what the technical term is) so he'll need some more drops soon.

Yeah the great thing about pets is the unconditional love they provide :)
