Update on my friend.
First, many thanks for the kind comments on my post about my dying best friend.
I appreciate those.
He has complications from prostate cancer and was in renal failure.
His kidneys had shut down.

Arthur dodged the bullet.
He's a very lucky man.
1. He's a retired physician. OB/GYN. So he knows much better than the rest of u what's going on in his body with prostate cancer.
2. His wife is ALSO a retired physician. G/P, ER, and diagnostician.
She saved his life.
For now, anyway.

He began to feel lethargic that night and then, in the wee hours, began to vomit.
She smelled ammonia and immediately stopped his taking of chemo drugs and painkillers. She wanted to take him to the hospital.
He begged off.
"Let's wait until in the morning."
Dumb, Arthur.

Then she started getting him to drink as much water as she could get down him to flush his kidneys.

The next morning they went to the hospital.
He had had some kidney stents installed and one 'possibly' had failed. They immediately wanted to send him to surgery to replace the stent.
She insisted on blood work first.
Turns out his kidneys are now functioning just fine.
No surgery.
He's now home and feeling much better.

I just have to wonder how the rest of us would have fared.
Those of us who aren't married to excellent diagnosticians.
:-(

Send that lady a bunch of flowers. Anything but lilies, I'd say.

Edit: forgot to say K&R

situation.

This also inspires me, because my dad is having renal issues now that are messing up his cancer therapy, so this is good news.

Bless you all. Kick and Rec.

10. Some more about Arthur.
He and his wife are English but have been U.S. citizens for many years.
They hosted a house party for Obama (which he attended) in NH back in 2007 (I think).

I'll try and find pics.

They met while they were attending Liverpool University Medical School.
Their youngest son has followed in their footsteps and will graduate from med school there in July.

Arthur very much wants to attend the graduation and I hope against hope that he makes it.

14. Super cool. Thanks for sharing.
Funny that the article spotlighted Tancredo and Obama house parties. I'm sure those just happened to be the house parties happening that particular day and that the reporter wasn't equating the chances of Obama and Tancredo, but sort of funny to see him juxtaposed against that powerful Tancredo Express.

I used to live there and it was a zoo during campaign season.

But I'm glad he's doing well. :)

16. Don't you know it.
I want Tish to move in as my permanent medical adviser.
She was our family doctor (no charge!) for many years.
My second best girl, right next to Miz t.
