So what do you want to do with your life
Any goals, any bucket lists, anything that you would like to see achieved that you want to be a part of before you die?

I think I'd like to switch professions and work with the brain, but worry career options would be shite if I did. I'd also like to get more involved in progressive political issues on a more grassroots level. Like to live overseas for a while and eventually (I think) settle down to a nice, progressive town.

6. Dunno
But whatever it is, I'd like it to bring in just enough money so I don't have to lie awake worrying how to pay today's bills and provide for my dotage in the future.

I'm gonna give up the booze and the one night stands

8. US State Department Foreign Service.
I've wanted to do that for almost 10 years now, and I pass the written exam with no problem, but keep running into a buzzsaw in the assessment center exercises.

I especially feel I want to do this now. Our diplomatic corps has a LOT of damage control to do, and I want to be a part of it.

10. Interesting
What is the applicant/opening ratio there? I would assume pretty high.

Are you looking at being a public diplomacy officer?

11. About 1 in 6 of the people who get to the assessment center stage actually are offered a job.
Edited on Thu May-21-09 03:57 PM by arbusto_baboso
And only about 10% of those who take the written exam pass. Don't know the exact applicant/opening ratio. It is VERY competitive for positions, though.

And I was looking at either Public Diplomacy or Consular career cones.

12. Did you ever get the question about being an FSO in Bangkok
and a group of American high school students have been arrested for desecrating a temple? I think I answered something brilliant like "I would fall back on my training" and that was pretty much the end of that assessment.:)

13. Didn't get that one.
I haven't tested since 2003, though. I figure it's safe(r) to do so again.

17. Wildlife Rehabber
I initially started majoring in Anthropology, but I'm happiest saving or helping animals. I suppose a concentration in Physical Anthropology could potentially lead to Primatology, but I'd rather have a wider discipline.

18. I just want to live long enough to enjoy retirement!
That seems to keep getting pushed off further and further into the future, however.

If I ever get to retire while I can still walk, I want to visit every National Park. I especially want to go to Yellowstone.

Is that too much to ask?!
