Do you HAVE to cook Lasagna Noodles?
I know there are lasagna noodles out there that do not require cooking. I am wondering if I can get away with the same thing with regular noodles. Yes, it's because I am lazy and don't feel like the extra step unless I have to. I have heard that you do not have to cook either kind, but fear it is too good to be true.

Anybody know?

4. You do NOT have to cook them
:woohoo:

I never do and I make a damn fine lasagna. Just be sure to put about 2/3c. of sauce at the bottom of the pan before your first layer of noodles. Add an extra dollop of sauce with each layer, and on top. I bake covered until about 20 minutes before it is done, and then I put cheese on top and let that melt/brown.

Enjoy!

5. OMG!! On the series, THANK YOU
I am now convinced to try it. And it'll save me from having to lug out my pasta pot. And electricity. And water.

:woohoo:

6. It really does work.
I do it this way, too. Saves a whole lot of energy and tastes just as good as the old way. :hi:

14. adding to your hints, if possible make it at least 6 hours before you plan to cook it
24 hours is best..just store it in the fridge until you are ready to bake it.

It also helps if the sauce is slightly thin.

16. And these are regular noodles?
I've always used the no-cook noodles that San Giorgio makes. They're pretty good. Never tried it with regular noodles before.

7. You absolutely do NOT have to cook them
But if you're using a bottled sauce, add half a bottle of water to the sauce. The noodles absorb the liquid while baking, so the sauce isn't in the least bit runny. If you're using home made sauce, the same principal applies. Add some broth of tomato juice to the sauce. Otherwise the noodles tend to be rather chewy.

8. They make a kind that you DO NOT cook first - they work great.
I resisted them for years, but that's all I use now. You can't tell the difference and it is SO much easier.

12. The Moosewood vegetarian restaurant cookbooks all insist you DON'T cook the noodles.
They have several lasagna recipes and they say they prefer putting the noodles in dry and letting them cook through from the liquid in the sauce. :)
