My favorite crazy person line of all time...
This nut used to wander around our neighborhood when I was a kid and he'd go up to peopl and yell, "Ya know, you've got a lousy attitude about World War Two."

1. This old guy used to hang out
at this fast food joint and tell us:

"Be nice, play nice, throw rocks"

We use to call him Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons b/c his hair was all puffy and big. Then we found out that it was one of my friends great uncle.

3. Nick the Bum
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 05:28 PM by HereSince1628
Sad but true. I don't know his real name.
As a kid I saw him everyday pushing a shopping cart and collecting bottles to turn in for their deposit.

When I was in High School he died. Unknown to me, Nick had been a marine decorated for heroic service in the Pacific during WWII. He came home and took over the operation of the "Green Parrot" soda stand across from a city park. In the late 50's it failed. His wife left him and took away his kids. He lived in the "Green Parrot" until the 70's when he died in a fire there.

How cruel I was. Our favorite gig was to ask him "what are you hiding in your coat?" To which he would grin, open his coat, and show us bottles stuffed into the lining...

I could shoot myself for my arrogance...but he is and remains my favorite crazy person.

May he truly rest in peace.

Sorry Nick. I was stupid.

4. "The South will RISE AGAIN" from a ummm
let's just say he wore a Conferderate uniform around my Northern New Jersey town, and would tell anyone how the Confederacy was lining up to win the war.

But my all time nutso phrase was merely a "AARFARAAA" or something along those lines, yelled to me and few friends who rode out into to the woods to find the guy legend had said lived in a Darth Vader outfit. He was there, sleeping when we found him, on a small blanket, in a full Darth Vader uniform. Also in Jersey.

5. This woman who lived behind my Gramma
in a separate little house that was in her backyard. (?)

She had a problem forming sentences, and I guess if they weren't perfect, she'd start over from the beginning. It was frustrating but funny... it always went something like this (my Gramma's name was June):

Okay, June... (long, thoughtful pause)

Okay, June... the reason... (long, thoughtful pause)

Okay. June. The reason I have to... (long, thoughtful pause)

Okay. June. The reason this check is... (long, thoughtful pause)

Okay. June. The reason I can't pay all... (pause and restart AGAIN!)

Maddening!

and to HS1628... that was very sad. :(

7. Plaza Steve
Used to wander around Palos Verdes - particularly Malaga Cove Plaza.

The High School used to let him to little jobs and help out sometimes.

I think Lee Ritenour may have written a song in his memory.

8. A friend of mine
Had some pals who lived in Vidor, TX. They were old GM enthusiasts like my friend. They lived in a treehouse. The cops were always showing up to arrest them for something or other. One day the police showed up and one of the treehouse dwellers yelled, "Don't come any closer! I got a anaconda!"
