Roku is a digital video player that so far works, and works great for me, with Netflix and Amazon's video on demand. It's a little box that hooks up to your router and then to your tv. I don't usually comment about these sort of things, but I've liked this so well I just had to share it.

I just got a 50" Panasonic plasma tv (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-TC-P50X1-50-Inch-Plasma/dp/B001SN7QUU/ref=pd_cp_e__map) and so last Monday I signed up for a free 2 week trial with Netflix since for $8.99 a month I would get 1 dvd at a time as well as unlimited streaming videos. I was surprised to get my first dvd just 2 days later and even more surprised that when I returned it to the Post Office at 4:30 on Thursday afternoon that Netflix had it by Friday morning and they were sending out another dvd that I should get today.

So the Netflix dvd thing works better than expected, but it's the streaming video that is great for me. Thousands of movies and tv series (I'm watching "Dead Like Me" now) that the Roku lets me watch on my 50" plasma. The streaming video plays perfectly and although it is not high definition but it is dvd quality which makes it better that the old standard definition which is what we got on our old non-high def tvs. Since I don't have cable or satellite I now have lots to watch when I want to view it. Last night I watched "Hancock" with Will Smith and have been watching the series about the Meercats.

Roku: perhaps the best $99 I ever spent.

We now return you to your regular programming. Carry on.
