From today's Sunday paper:

http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/accent/295873

He's been called a scamp and a loving father, an artistic genius and a purveyor of kitsch.

More than a quarter-century past his death, Ettore "Ted" DeGrazia still claims the title of
Tucson's most famous — and no doubt most prolific — artist.

His black-eyed urchins — replicated in everything from refrigerator magnets to greeting cards —
still spark instant recognition from those who wouldn't know a Picasso from a Rockwell.

DeGrazia poses with his 1957 oil painting "Los Niños," which UNICEF used for its holiday card in 1960.

3. Hey Ptah,
I finally got up there last fall. I was never a big fan of his style, but my Mom was. She sent Christmas cards with his prints many times so I have a sentimental connection there. Up at the gallery they had some of his stuff covering the Revolution and it was more my style (less cute big eyes and more horses in action) The video they show is kind of cool.

Husband got shot at when he was a kid drinking in the desert up there - Ted was drinking with somebody else on his porch and the boys were stumbling around in the desert. Ted went in and got his gun and fired into the air a few times. Ahhh the good old days.

We also have a friend who does beautiful silverwork who has had a show up there a couple of times. He was invited again this spring and stopped by here but oif course we never made it in to town while he was up there.

If I recall, you live up by where the other studio he had was. OK now we are having Alzheimer problems. Wasn't there a Mexican restaurant in the old studio at Cambell and Prince? I swear I remember going there a few times. I can remember the fight when they tore it down and built a big honking Chevron station.
