How does one go about preparing four whole fried chickens and a coke?
There is a sale on chickens. All I have is a frying pan in which to cook them. How do I do this with a minimum of chicken butchering. I think I can handle the beverage aspect of the meal.

Mrs. Murphy: Help you two?

Mrs. Murphy: Yeah.
Elwood: I'll have some toasted white bread please.
Mrs. Murphy: You want butter or jam on that, honey?
Elwood: No ma'am, dry.
Jake: Do you have any fried chicken ma'am?
Mrs. Murphy: Best damned chicken in the state.
Jake: Bring me four fried chickens and a Coke.
Mrs. Murphy: You want chicken wings or chicken legs?
Jake: Four fried chickens and a Coke.
Elwood: And some dry white toast please.
Mrs. Murphy: Ya'all want anything to drink with that?
Elwood: No ma'am.
Jake: A Coke.
Mrs. Murphy: Be right back.

10. Can you grill instead?
Frying four chickens with only one frying pan in summer sounds like a hot mess.

Here's a link from Cooking & Baking about a method for grilling whole chickens. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=236x65618

12. Well, if you don't have to fry all four, then by all means carry on.
Just don't use cornflakes.

9. Here's a recipe
http://www.ehow.com/how_2191622_pan-fry-southern-chicken.html

Frankly, I've never cut up a whole chicken. I usually buy my bird pre-cut. However, it's not hard to divvy one into eight pieces.

Here's instructions on how to do that:

13. warm up the grill, pop open 4 cans of beer, shove 'em up the chickens' ass, put on the grill
when the beer is gone, the chicken is done.

yum, yum.

14. not fried
but if you have a crockpot (you can get one for around $20) you put the chikcen in there wtih a little water and some veggies, leave it alone, and yum.

I now buy rotissery chickens casue they're cheaper than whole chickens and no work.

16. Google "spatchcock".
Basically you cut all along the sternum, and then flatten that bad boy out. Works well for grilling, baking or broiling. Should work for frying too, if you don't cook it too fast. I've done it with chickens, small turkeys, ducks (not so good), and Cornish game hens. Haven't tried it with anything else.

kitchen shears, if you don't have a proper knife--actually, it's easier.

My suggestions:

Pat the bird dry, rub with any seasoning (I could suggest corn flakes, but I don't know...) um, for frying, the best way to go is dredge in flour, dunk in egg & milk--about 1:1 ratio--then get some flavored crumbs on that--what's good? Crunched-up stuffing mix. Srsly. You need a really deep pan though, and to get it good and hot, and you really have to flatten it well because--hello, chicken.

Or:

If you have a big enough toaster oven, you can totally roast a regular-sized chicken in there, and it goes really well when you cut it like that.
