I can see putting tomato or ketchup on a burger, but both?
The thread got me thinking…

For those of you that partake of the burger....

Why would you put both tomato and ketchup on your burger? Isn't this redundant? Isn’t this overkill? I can see one or the other, but both?

1. I just use tomatoes with some lettuce, onions, and cheese.

4. You and me both...
I might add to what you put on and include either mustard or veganese...

And sometimes I'll throw on a few sliced jalapeños! :9

11. Do you use an English Muffin as the bun?
I like them better than regular hamburger buns!

13. You know, I've never tried that!
But I can see advantages: not quite as filling, a little bit different taste...

Now I use English muffins for breakfast by pouring a little egg substitute in a small bowl and microwaving (for 60 seconds), then placing it inside an English muffin with a slice of soy Swiss cheese and a couple slices of soy Canadian bacon for a low-fat but tasty breakfast...:9

I might try an English-muffin hamburger next time.

2. That would be like putting two pieces of bread on a burger.
What would they do, put one piece of bread on each side? Wow, some people!

3. Different texture and different flavor.
Ketchup is really rather sweet, the tomato is salty/savory.

8. I haven't had this kind of pizza...
My favorite pizza is:

Jalapeno and anchovy!

But do you recommend 3- or 4-cheese pizza?

9. i love veggies on pizza, sometimes with anchovy.
I've never had anchovy with jalapeno, though. I'll give it a try the next time I'm making one.

I'm not a big fan of pizza with just cheese but I have tasted 4 cheese pizza and it's pretty good.

12. Had my first anchovy/jalapeno pizza in Tucumcari, New Mexico, in summer 1978.
Been my favorite ever since! I call it my "salt and pepper pizza"

Tastes great with ice-cold beer. :9

14. Some of us just love ketchup and tomatoes.

Redundant? Yes, maybe, but for me, it's tasty. I like it that way.

Look at it this way: Tomatoes and hamburger buns are not exactly the same size. For those bites without tomatoes, there's still the flavor of tomato, if ketchup is there too.

16. I don't like either on my burgers
Barbecue Sauce, sometimes, but otherwise just cheese and maybe bacon :)

17. Barbecue sauce!
That would be tasty!

I used to buy a chipotle/citrus barbecue sauce that was very tasty. But I haven't been able to find it for a couple of months now.

It would make for a very delicious hamburger, though...
