2mg of Xanax and I still can't relax
There is just too much going on and I cannot get my mind to quit spinning.

I recently turned 45 - kind of depressing.

Over six months unemployed - have been on UI and benefits ran out. I did qualify for extended benefits thank goodness so I have 20 more weeks. The job market sucks. There are hardly any to apply for and when there is one, me and a hundred others do, so I have received many many "thanks, but no thanks" responses.

Divorced finalized a few months ago. Ex got the house and I quit-claimed the deed to him. Unfortunately he was never able to refinance to get my name off of the mortgage and he ended up having to walk away from the house which put it into foreclosure. He quit is job and moved back up north to live with his family.

I had to file bankruptcy since the mortgage company started coming after me.

I was covered on Ex's employer medical plan so had to go on COBRA - $434.00 a month puts a dent in my unemployment benefits.

Thank goodness I live in a house owned by my parents so I do not have to pay a mortgage or rent.

I do have to pay for utilities, food, car payment, COBRA, and for a butt-load of prescription drugs every month. I have a few medical issues that require frequent visits to the doctor's and lab work on a regular basis.

I am running through my little bit of savings pretty quickly.

Okay I will shut up now. I know there are many worse off out there. At least I do not have any children having to go through this mess with me.

I am just in a serious "boo-fucking-hoo for me" mood tonight. And like I said - the Xanax just doesn't seem to be giving me the usual "I-don't-give-a-crap-about-anything" feeling tonight.

Maybe one more milligram will do the trick?

1. Wow, 2mgs seems like a lot.
Do you have a funny distracting DVD you can watch? Maybe it would help to talk to your MD and see if something different would help. Really. I am only saying this because of what we have seen; do not drink alcohol after taking that much Xanax. Consider a walk or some sort of relaxation exercise. Sorry for your troubles, these are trying times.

6. I thought it was .5! I could so be wrong here since I have
never taken xanax. Maybe I am thinking of another pill.

13. Damn, you're right!!!
Oh, god, let me cancel that stupid post I made.

It's been a long time since that sort of drug even entered my consciousness.

Thank you SO much!

8. Are you sure that isn't .5mgs?
Honestly, maybe you have been taking it long term but incremental doses are not usually that high. And mainly I don't want Minimus supplementing it with alcohol.

10. I am not drinking any alcohol. My prescription is 1mg tabs and
doctor told me if no relief after three hours that I could take another tablet. I will not be taking a third even though it is tempting.

I will just peruse DU and try to keep myself occupied until I feel I can lay down and my mind will turn off so I can sleep.

Thanks for everyone's concerns and well wishes!

11. Good luck to you.
I am on the west coast, so I will be here for a couple more hours. Thank you for telling me you weren't going to combine your medication with alcohol.

14. I was wrong.........
I deleted my post as soon as I realized my error.

I don't take Xanax. Just had conversations about it.

Damn, my drug expertise is failing me. I'm so ashamed.....................

15. Don't be so hard on yourself.
You were trying to help another poster. You are smart about so many things and there are so many drugs out there.

16. It was careless -
I've made that mistake in conversation with my physician friend. I'm no doctor, and this could have had disastrous repercussions if the OP had paid any attention to me.

I'm SO grateful this one was caught.

Thank you very much................

5. i'm so sorry you're dealing with all of this right now
another mg might not be a bad idea. i've found bubble baths to be very soothing in those situations, or even just curling up on the couch with a cheesy movie.

i know this is of little consolation, but you are not alone. i lost my job last month and have been relying on my fiance to keep me afloat. i was able to get an extension on my unemployment, but it's less that what i got from the original claim and it's not enough to cover all my bills.

all we can do is just keep breathing and putting one foot in front of the other.

good luck to you

12. If you routinely take 2mg, your brain will build up a tolerance to it.
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 09:36 PM by Phoonzang
You'll have to take more if you want the same effect. This is a problem obviously, since frequent usage will force you to keep upping your dosage.

17. I had my doctor take me off of Xanax
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 10:26 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
I'd take it, go OUT, wake up, and take whatever it took for me to pass out plus one.

My epiphany came when I was in the market and could not write a check. I had to use my left hand to move my right.

I told my doctor "I can't be trusted with this shit. I won't ask for it again and if I do don't give it to me."

It didn't HELP...it rendered me unconscious in high doses, which...at the time...I perceived as "help."

For whatever it is worth, I've been going through hell since the holidays, and in the last two days signed up two MAJOR clients.

Never, never, never give up. Lean on your friends, your family, the people here on DU...you will turn the corner when you least expect it (often long after you first wanted to give up).
