PSA: Wear a Helmet.
Seriously.

One of my friends was in a bike accident the other night. Her bike got caught in the streetcar tracks, and she went flying over the handlebars, hitting her head on the pavement. Luckily, she's fine now, save for some bruises.

She was wearing a helmet, which actually broke in half. That could have been her head. It probably saved her life.

Seriously, loungies. If you ride a bike, wear a helmet!

1. My dear lightningandsnow!
What a good thought, and thank goodness your friend is OK!

They don't call helmets "brain buckets" for nothing!

2. It's always fun to look at bike or motorcycle helmets after an accident.
Mangled, scratched, gouged, broken, and shattered. Anyone who sees that and doesn't wear a helmet deserves their fate, and their family should be billed for the cleanup of their faces off the highways, too.

Just my thoughts. As a former motorcycle rider and a current bike rider, I've never understood the goofy-ass pseudo-macho arguments against helmets. The only reason there aren't more people to speak up for helmets is because the people who have learned the lesson the best are dead.

3. Better that the helmet broke in half instead of her skull.

4. I always do
Not sure if it would have saved his life but lost a friend when he was hit by a car.
The guy I ride has split two helmets while mountain biking.
Glad your friend is OK. Most comanies will replace the helmet, she should contact the manufacturer and see if she can get a new one.

6. I do tricks on skateboards - grinding then fell. Helmets saved my life!
Once I was on my skateboard, and I was grinding. I fell in the middle of that grind on my head. Had minor injuries on my legs and arms. Without a helmet, I might have broke my head.
Thank Bell for that helmet that saved my life.

7. I couldn't agree more
I can't tell you how many times a simple tumble off a bike turns into a trip to the hospital, because the person wasn't wearing a helmet. The head is a delicate object with very little padding or cushion for impacts with pavement or side walks or curbs or cars.
