Damn I Hate Spending 6 Bucks On Mealy Apples

I'm a notoriously poor judge of fruit at the grocery store. Invariably I choose the wrong peaches, plums, cantaloupe, and nectarines. They ain't cheap, either.

Oh sure, you can always steal a grape or cherry or two, but I'm afraid the produce manager will place me under a citizen's arrest if I were to sneak a bite out of his mangos.

At least I know what a Chips Ahoy cookie will taste like. And for only 3 bucks, it's a surefire cost saver.

1. I feel for ya.........

I'm not big on fresh fruit, preferring dried, but I landed on some black cherries yesterday that - yeah, I tasted one - are fabulous. Three bucks a pound. I got four pounds.

Today, in that same store, the same cherries are SIX BUCKS A POUND!

That's obscene, and getting a mealy apple - the prices of apples are insane - just (forgive me) bites. What kind did you get? Because I only buy Fuji or Honeycrisps, and I've never had a mealy one, but when I've wandered into Macintosh or Delicious, Golden or Red, I've had it happen.

2. They were Galas

Normally a pretty safe bet.

Maybe I'll make a pie.

Or maybe I can see how far I can launch them from my porch.

For 6 bucks, they better at least have some entertainment value.

3. Applesauce ..........

That's always my fallback, but I'm lazy.

For six bucks, I'd expect them to do light cleaning ..............

4. I hate mealy apples

It seems I've had the worst luck with red delicious, which aren't my favorite apples anyway. I usually stick to Golden Delicious and sometimes Pink Lady.
