Would like some help with an older song...
It's one of those songs we laugh at nowadays, because it tries too hard to be "profound," when it sounds like the teabaggers' theme song now.

One of the lyrics goes "Hand out the arms and ammo, 'cause the revolution's here, and you know it's right."

Anyone know who did this song about 40 years ago?
And if they had any other tunes?

1. "Something in the Air" by Thunderclap Newman
Call out the instigators
Because there's something in the air
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here, and you know it's right
And you know that it's right

We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

Lock up the streets and houses
Because there's something in the air
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here, and you know it's right
And you know that it's right

We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

Hand out the arms and ammo
We're going to blast our way through here
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here, and you know it's right
And you know that it's right

We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together

One-hit wonder, apparently--sorry. :( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderclap_Newman

4. Thanks.
I can see why they were a one-hit wonder, though.
It was a pretty dumb song back then.

6. The true inspiration for Spinal Tap's "Listen to What the Flower People Say"...
...I'm guessing.

3. I was beaten out by mere minutes!
I find that I can Google the lyrics and come up with the song.

A few years ago, I was looking for a song about a man who was in a wheelchair and his wife wanted him to come home. Everyone kept telling me that it was "Ruby" by Kenny Rodgers but I knew that it wasn't.

I googled the lyrics and found that it was "Silence on the Line" by Chris LeDoux. :)

5. The song was actually about LEFTY revolutionaries, though -
no way teabaggers.
More like Weather Underground.:nuke: who did occasionally rob a bank or blow shit up seriously.

I have heard of the singer, but I never heard the song.

7. Thunderclap Newman original, also covered by Gamma (Ronnie Montrose) on their second album...
...the one with the "land shark" image, one of my all-time favorites. The big song off of this album was "Voyager," but they also covered "Something In The Air." They stayed pretty close to the original, with perhaps a bit more muscle and a bit less whimsy / irony. I still think the original version is the best version.
