Poll question: Toy cravings that remained well into adulthood?
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 03:05 PM by JCCyC
Inspired by Elfwitch's crayon poll. What kind of toy you didn't have (or feel you didn't have enough of) and find youself wanting it even now?

3. Ahhhh, children. The perfect excuse.
I have two daughters, and that didn't stop me from buying them toy cars. Toddles LOVE die-casts regardless of sex, and they're very durable compared to other toys.

7. Building blocks rock!
There was a brand in Brazil in the 70's which, if I may say so, was even better than Lego. It was called Hering-Rasti. The 'click' was just perfect. It has electric engines, gearboxes, conveyor belts, gears etc. I don't know Mindstorms, but it might be similar.

29. Mindstorms are just like that except
the have a computer "block" that controls all the electronics. It also has touch, rotation, temperature and light sensors. There is even an open source C like language that you can program them with.

6. Slinkies and those curved bars of metal with the wheel on it
That you whip around it... Best I can describe it.

I took a slinky to Mexico for my last class in Spanish. I was there a month, and we visited a lot of pre-Colombian ruins/pyramids. I wanted to see which ancient Indian tribe's monuments were the best for Slinky-ing. Monte Alban was the best I tried.

15. Are these the ones that look like
small hockey pucks with holes in the center and the sides, which you'd join with wood sticks a little thinner than pencils?

20. You're thinking of Tinker Toys.
Lincoln Logs were little pieces of wood shaped like logs with nitches cut out of them so they would fit together, and you could build little log cabins.

28. Is that a Winchester 1100?
Yeah I love guns, which somehow is in direct conflict with my progressive sensibilities. I LOVE ball and cap pistols, especially six-shooters , I have a Colt Navy dragoon. These are all grown up versions of guns I played with as a kid, but I come from a long line of hunters. I got my first real gun at 8.

but, what the hell, I don't shoot mammals, only avians.

24. nannynanny-booboo
I have the big ones you can put the action figures in. Got the Millenium Falcon too. :P

The very best part - they are no longer in their original condition. My best friend and I painted them a couple of years back. The Millenium Falcon has flowers all over it like a VW bug from the 60s. The X-wing has flames down the side. But the tie-fighter is the best. The tie-fighter is totally kick ass. Most of it is black but the side panels are painted in rainbow colors. Girly and geeky at the same time. Geek girls ROCK!

(Just for all you purists...I do have most of the same toys without the fun paint jobs as well. It's just a matter of seeing who dies first, my brother or me, to claim ownership. I want that action figure carrying case that looks like Darth Vader's head and I'm planning on outliving my brother to get it.)
