Don't you want to hug and kiss this little kitten?
She looks so frightened...and she was. She was one of three kittens I caught with the Mom a few days ago...she is better now and with a woman who has two other kittens...by the end of my 3 days with her she was letting me pet and kiss her...never once did she hiss or bite or claw...sweet little girl. A happy ending for the strays, but now I get a phone call from the woman whose land these cats were on to say there is a 4th kitten still out there! Guess where I'm headed?

1. Awww!
I would love to sit with it for an hour until I had it in my lap purring. You are very kind and a true animal lover. And she is one lucky kitty!

3. For a kitty who hadn't known human contact before,
she adjusted fairly soon...her sister was even better...tolerated touching right off!

6. At that age, certainly...
...once they know they're safe, they respond...even though Mom is wild, they are essentially offspring of domesticated animals, so they DNA is wired for contact!

7. Those eyes worry me, though,
as that "third eyelid" you see coming up from the lower insides of each eye is a sign of sickness in cats.

8. I think it just may be the flash going off...
...kittens in the wild are very susceptible to eye infections, but she's going to the vet in about a week, so that will be checked out. If you saw Mom, she was tiny, so for the kittens to make it in the wild so far (probably 7 weeks) they probably are pretty sturdy.

12. I have a cat who has that membrane very visible all her life.
She was also a feral, but she is extremely healthy now. I've had her nine years now.

19. One just fell into my life a few weeks ago.
Edited on Sat Aug-29-09 01:55 PM by cwydro
Full grown, but nothing but ragged fur on a skeleton.

I had to hand feed him and thought he would die the next day he was so weak. He is looking better every day and living in my backyard. Too skittish to come in so far, but the others seem to have accepted him.

20. Aw, that's nice...
...one just showed up where I live...only about 2 weeks ago, and looked terrible. I feed him every day and now he's talking to me...he's a big orange tabby and isn't very skittish, although he still won't let me come right up to him. I'm hoping he's eventually adoptable because he must have been someone's pet at some point.

24. About half of the cats in my feral colony of 25 are orange tabbys...
...probably all related somehow, too.

...I miss her, but I'm glad she has a home and won't have to grow up outside fending for herself.

10. aww what a cute little kitten
My two cats were feral kittens who were scared of anything and everything. Fortunately very sweet tempered though. They are two of the most affectionate cats I have ever met. It just takes time effort and love...I'm glad she has a good home..:)

18. You gotta wonder if those kittens know they lucked out...
...maybe they remember what life was like and are so affectionate because they are so happy to be elsewhere? My third cat is about a year, had her for 6 months now and found her at my feral colony. Someone probably dumped her there, and since she meowed and rubbed up against me, she can't have been feral. Got her in the cage, got her fixed and her shots, and as soon as I opened the cage, she jumped up into my lap and wanted to be held...she is very, very affectionate still.

:hi:

I hope her extra eyelid isn't showing anymore, since it's a sign of malnourishment. Thanks for taking care of them! :hi:

23. She is small probably because she wasn't getting enough food outside...
...but she started eating well once inside...voraciously, even. :hi:
