What makes you say: "My god, it was that long ago?"
When my Angels won the World Series - seven years ago.

When Johnny Carson retired - seventeen years ago.

When the Challenger exploded: TWENTY-THREE YEARS AGO. Damn.

You?

4. When I paid $17 to see the Simon & Garfunkle Reunion tour and thought THAT was a shitload of money!
That would have been what, 1983? I was used to $7-$9 for concerts. $17 was expensive, but worth it. 30,000+ people at Laurel race track - about the same as the teabaggers on 9/12, but no assholes.

Fortunately, we have the Whitaker Center here in Harrisburg, PA - tickets are generally in the $35-45 range. Hershey tickets start at $75.

32. I was barely 10 when that happened. That seems like an eternity ago.
My parents dragged me to church where we played board games in the back all night.

They were probably expecting the apocalypse.

23. Quarterflash "Harden My Heart" is almost 30 years old...
originally recorded in 1980, it became a hit in 1981...

when that song was released, Elvis' first hits were only about 25 years old and considered "golden oldies"

most recently, when I learned that our newest Tory MP was born when I was already at university! (There is in any case something wrong with anyone that young who is a Tory MP. Actually, there is something wrong with anyone of any age who is a Tory MP!)

And as someone else said, the 40th anniversary of the moon landing: probably the first public event that I remember.

28. When I reminisce
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 06:06 PM by frogmarch
about all the interesting guests Jack Paar had on the original The Tonight Show. For some strange reason, the guest I remember the most clearly was Paar's gag writer, Jack Douglas, who wrote My Brother Was An Only Child, as well as Dr. Sturgeon, the Virgin Surgeon, which was about a tree doctor, and Songs I learned at My Mother's Knee and Other Places.. I might not appreciate Douglas's humor nowadays, but I'd still love Jack Paar.

Being in your 30s and able to remember things that happened a QUARTER CENTURY ago is weird. :o
