I think there is something wrong with my high school.
I graduated in 2008. That year a close friend of mine was killed in car accident and an alumni was killed in Iraq.
Last year a girl was killed from alcohol poisoning, and two boys committed suicide.
This year an alumni died from a brain tumor. A few days ago, my friend's brother, another alumni, was killed in a motorcycle accident.
I thought that was enough..then I found out today that yet another alumni was trying to "hood surf" and fell off a moving car and got run over. He is in critical condition with major head injuries, and they don't know if he is going to make it. And all of these people were 21 or under.
This is starting to freak me out... :(

1. My condolences... but there's nothing 'wrong with your school'
I graduated in 1985, and by the time i turned 21, i had lost a half-dozen good friends, plus there had been other deaths among those i went to high school with: car accidents, a drowning, hypothermia, leukemia, murder, AIDS, a military chopper crash, etc...

I did all of the same foolhardy, feigned-immortality things that my friends did, so there are times when i wonder why i have lived to be middle-aged and they didn't.

2. First of all, I'm so sorry.
The car accident and the death in Iraq were probably both unavoidable.
As for the suicides, depending on the size of the school, the rates may or may not be normal. You can check statistics here.

As for the alcohol poisonimg and the hood surfing (which was probably alcohol related), two people from one school getting hurt or killed in alcohol related situations is not surprising. Please don't take these as callous remarks, I'm just trying to help you get the info you need to decide if there is real cause for alarm. Meanwhile,
