Alright, everybody, what's your take on "Manscaping"
For those of you who missed QEftSG last night, manscaping is the process of trimming a man's overgrown body hair. I have been known to manscape, but I do it rarely. I used to do it frequently when I was single, but neither me nor my partner do it. I thought that it was a really gay thing. Here's the funny thing my straight brother manscapes regularly, as does my partner's straight brother.

Question 1 (for men): Who out there manscapes?

Question 2 (for women): Who likes there man manscaped?

Question 3 (for straight men): Do you think that manscaping is mostly a gay thing?

Question 4 (for gay men): How many of your friends manscape?

3. Fortunately,
I don't have a problem with too much body hair. I'm thirty years old and I only need to shave my face three times a week, if that tells you anything. If I was a hairy fella, chances are I would just let it be. I'm a natural kind of guy.

4. I've manscaped.
1. Rarely, but I've trimmed a few areas. I don't do it for anyone else but me, though. Trimming is OK, I think. Shaving starts to get a little weird, unless you're an athlete whose sport "mandates" it.

2. NA

3. I never thought of it that way. It's just something I do from time to time to maintain appearances.

Don't LIKE hairy mens. Leaving them things all over the house. Little piles of dusty bunny man hair? Ew, no thanks.

* I did it once for surgery. Not a good look for me. Just imagine a terrified chihauhau...

** It may be more common among gay men, but I've seen a whole lot of shaved straight guys the few times I've been to nude beaches. Apparently, the rule for all men and women at my local nudie beach is shave, shave, shave. Seeing an elderly, overweight couple strolling around like plucked chickens is something else...

Question 2:

I want a man who will accept me for all of my lumps and rolls, visible veins, and scary toes, so I want to extend the same courtesy to my mate. Truth be told, after four months with a self-described "hairy beast," I've grown to not only accept it but become very fond of it.

21. Straight female here...depends on the man...
If they have what I would call a "normal" amount of body hair, I'm fine with them leaving it au natural. Normal amount means hair on the head, BUT NOT sprouting out of their shirt collar. Normal amount means chest hair, BUT NOT back hair. Normal amount means leg hair, BUT NOT leg hair long enough to braid or make into a 'fro. Knuckle hair on fingers or toes is also unacceptable. Anything outside of the normal limits needs to be waxed off. ATTENTION MEN: every woman I know agrees with these guidelines. Remove your own hair accordingly.

The only place on a man that I like a lot of hair is on his head, nice long hair. ummmm. But a lot of hair on the body, no thanks--get rid of it. And I would certainly do the same for him.

26. Answering Question #2
Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 04:00 PM by geniph
I do, I do! I much prefer things neatly trimmed. I don't expect a man to be as hairless as a newborn, but I don't think their body hair should be 8 inches long or thick as a shag rug, either. My husband HATES his back hair and is seriously considering a wax, and he trims here and there where the growth becomes freakish.

I *loved* last night's episode! What Thom did with that guy's apartment was nothing short of a f***ing miracle - didn't even look like the same place. It was really a nice apartment, but you couldn't tell that for the foulness and filth when they first got there.

Then this afternoon I saw Queer Eye for the first time! I've never laughed so much. What a great show. Those guys are GOOD!

I agree with a previous post that if I expect to be accepted as I am I have to accept my man as he is. Okay, so he could use a little manscaping but it's what's inside that counts. I've lived with the hairy back for 29 years; I'm not going to change him now.

But I do love that show!

32. Not shaving it altogether
just trimming it a bit shorter. Any hair that does not grow on your head that is long enough to braid is a candidate for trimming.

answer #2:

Haven't dated that many particularly hairy men, I guess, so it never occured to me as one way or the other.

cheating and answering #3:

Heck first guys I know who did 'perms' in the 1970s were straight - I would put this in that category - thus not a partucularly gay man thing. (Of course what would I know? I never heard of it or thought of it until this thread...)

After the guy had been given his haircut at the salon, the hairdresser used her comb to comb up the guys eyebrow hairs and trim the longer ones with her clipper.

39. Straight chick here,
more than one of the dudes with whom I've been especially close engaged in a bit of personal topiary.

I like a big, fuzzy dude and have no objections whatsoever to a bit of occasional trimming to prevent that 'Wild Mountain Man' look. Though, out and out artistic carving would be somewhat dependant upon the dude in question and the carving in particular.

I do not think the practice restricted to gays.

I think everyone should have to do the same amount of maintenance, LOL.

But, when is it *too much*? I do a lot of things, LOL--but I figure I would look abnormal if I did anything to my arms.

And I've seen men who go overboard--for me, a guy's eyebrows look best left alone unless the hair is really long. The plucked look on a guy, I'm not a fan of. Great if you do it, scary if it looks too perfect. For me.
