Tropico III
It's a GREAT updated game. Tough on single-core processors and older video cards. If any of you played the originals, you'll love the new one. No editor yet, but you can make random islands. Cheat list is fun. $40 everywhere, cheap for a new release. Demo available to test your system for compatibility.

1. My good video card bit the dust right as they were looking for playtesters.
Dying to play it, but I have other financial worries before I can get another good video card. x(

3. I was using a GeForce 9500 pci card.
I think the heat in my place killed it this summer (attic apartment, two tiny windows and no AC makes for one toasty room). I went back to the 5200 to hold me over. I've been tucking aside a bit of money each month and by January I'll have a new one again.

In a way it's been cool. I've gone back to some old games, and some REAL old games. I'm talking Roguelikes and shit lol (DoomRL is way cool). I replayed System Shock 2, and that alone made it all worthwhile. :)

8. Yes, sorry.
The PC I had when the card died was just PCI, but I have a newer PC now that is PCI-E. Actually glad you reminded me. :)

I'm actually going a touch higher on the card to get one with S-Video capabilities. I have no cable so I watch all my sports on the PC. But if I'm doing another program I have to either miss the action or stop what I'm doing to see the action. If I'm surfing the net it's no big deal, but when I'm in the middle of an art project or even a game it's a pain in the backside. So I'm going to run an out to my tv and essentially use it as a second monitor to watch sports.

If that doesn't pan out though this card looks like a good one. I've had great luck with NVidia cards, and I can't blame them for the last one burning out when temps in here during the summer hit 110 at times (how my stereo receiver has survived I'll never know...that fucker gets hot in the winter!).

The slot fan is a must though, and I should have thought of that last damn summer. I have no heat here, so I guess I'll be ok until Spring, but there's no way I'm doing another summer here without getting one of those.

Thanks for the info and the links (especially newegg...I always forget them).

:hi:

4. Tropico always has the best music.
I loved the first one. It always made me sad that I couldn't create the perfect communist paradise.

5. Has the pathfinding/walking speed been improved?
I really liked Tropico, but the tendency of my peons to wander halfway across the map, only to return to sleep or eat, and never actually spend any time on the job drove me nuts at times.

I know, I should check out the demo.
