ABBA: Rock & Roll, Rush not Rock & Roll???

At least Genesis was picked but they'll probably focus on all their commerical pop crap instead of the classics.

1. Rock and Roll HOF does NOT like Prog Rock
Thats been evident for years. Rush does not need to enter to have their wonderful career validated though.
Meanwhile.... for the inevitable Rush haters...

3. Tells me the HOF people have some brains...
Rush was just a ripoff group that stole from all the other hair bands of the 70's.

10. FYI
Rush is STILL making some really good music. With albums as recently as 2007 I think. Who are they ripping off now? Also almost all my favorite CD's of theirs are the stuff they've done from about 1990+. So that kind of shoots holes in your idea.

4. Oh, have I got a Genesis story for you then...
In 1981, at the Capital Center near DC, Genesis (Collins, obviously) did a rather nice show including a lot of older music including "Cinema Show". The album "Duke" was out and I don't remember if "Abacab" had been released, but I remember Collins in a Devo-type silver suit for one song and I can't think of anything else that would merit that attire.

Anyway, I was sitting behind some teen girl who yacked THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME! That is until "Misunderstanding" began to play. Then she jumped up and shouted, "THAT'S MY FAVORITE SONG!" I almost slapped her upside the head for being an idiot.

Now, on the fun side. At the same concert, I inflated a condom. Did you know they get about 2 1/2 feet long and a good 9" in diameter? Anyway, I tied it off and sent it out into the crowd. I was about half-way back in a floor seat near the middle. A while later, I saw it bouncing around in one of the upper bleachers. Some time after that, it went sailing overhead at a height I couldn't figure out. My wife thinks somebody pulled it back to stretch it and let it rip. Later it was up in the bleachers on the other side. It was still bouncing around at the end of the concert.

If you like Genesis, check out The Musical Box. I believe they are in Europe now, and that's mostly where they perform, but I've seen them twice at the Whittaker Center in Harrisburg, PA, both times in December I believe. They are the only tribute band sanctioned by all current and former members of Genesis. They recreated the entire Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour including costumes and the original 1200 slides for the 3-screen display. I also saw the Selling England tour, again with full costumes. The members even look like the original Genesis members. The Hackett equivalent plays a left-handed two-neck bass/12 string and uses the sub-bass foot pedal row. I didn't see them for the first time until about 78, but a lot of the older members of the audiences commented on how close the performances were to what they had seen in the early 70's.

5. Works for me.
It's not so much that Rush isn't rock and roll as that they aren't listenable.

6. You know what's ironic?
ABBA is getting in because of Mamma Mia. But Rush had a whole Academy award winning trilogy based on their music: Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. What the hell is that about?

7. ABBA is in but Joy Division/New Order isn't?
Yeah, ok.

Let's just induct Debby Gibson and Hannah Montana and be done with it.

8. At least Genesis got in.
First actual Prog band in the hall (well, the stuff before the self-titled and that Invisible Touch garbage, anyway . . .) I hope Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett are included in this induction.
