Did anyone see ColdCase on CBS last night?
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 01:42 AM by Quetzal
I usually never cry when I see a TV show, but on this one I did. I couldn't help it.

It was about a gay, young man who was on the Philly baseball team and was killed in 1964. The homicide detectives re-opened the case and arrested the bigots that killed him.

Here is the ColdCase website.

2. A very moving hour of television
FYI: The script, written by lesbian filmmaker Jan Oxenberg, was rooted in actual history; "Russo's Raiders", a hand-picked police goon squad that harassed homosexuals, actually existed under the command of Philadephia police captain (and later mayor) Frank Rizzo in the '50s and '60s (presumably, the name was changed for legal reasons). The history of Rizzo's Raiders is covered extensively in Marc Stein's book City of Sisterly and Brotherly Loves: Lesbian and Gay Philadelphia, 1945-1972:

3. Very moving episode.
The ending theme was superbly matched to the visual elements. Haven't seen anything quite like it, in either film or TV.

It's an excellent show. I never miss an episode.

4. This was the first time I watched Cold Case
Are they all as good as this one? I am not easily impressed with TV shows but this one has me intrigued.

7. I've seen the series... Nice idea, but it's standard fare...
It seems to tell a story in a "paint by numbers" fashion. The viewer is spoon-fed, using emotion as the only means to maintain interest.

That doesn't mean it's totally bad, but I sometimes like getting stumped with plot twists or unexpected moments once in a while. What if Person X had died? What if Location Y had been totally renovated, making such an investigation worthless? What if your partner gets hurt or killed by someone or something unrelated?

There's so much in TV that could be done, but won't because it's hard to sign up actors who then die off or leave 6 episodes later.

People also like things simple with no thought required and base their judgment off of emotive responses rather than intellect. Oh well, nobody's perfect...

I love the concept, but unless I missed certain episodes, it prefers to play on one's emotions rather than to make you think "What could happen if the key they're looking for doesn't exist" or "what if there's an alternative we hadn't contemplated?"

It's interesting how television parallels politics...
