Vancouver, British Columbia (CNN) -- Police are asking for public assistance in locating actor Andrew Koenig, who is best known for appearing in the 1980s sitcom "Growing Pains."

Koenig, 41, lives in Venice, California, but was visiting friends in Vancouver, police said in a statement Sunday. Friends last saw him on February 14. He was supposed to return home last Tuesday, and Vancouver police were notified Thursday that he had not arrived.

"Andrew has recently been despondent and his family and friends are concerned for his well-being," the police statement said.

Koenig was described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 135 pounds, with brown shoulder-length hair and brown eyes, authorities said. Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to notify police.

Koenig appeared in 25 episodes of "Growing Pains" from 1985 to 1989, playing Richard "Boner" Stabone, according to the Internet Movie Database Web site. He also has appeared in episodes of several other TV shows.

2. I hope they fnd him safe!
I had NO idea that "Boner" was Chekov's son. I used to watch Growing Pains and never made the connection.

I hope they find Andrew safe and sound and wish peace and comfort for his family.

3. I hope he's OK. Sometimes we envy people....
There are times when I envy people who seem to have everything, but nobody's life is perfect. My former neurosurgeon was model-like gorgeous, very young and came from a wealthy family. I thought that nobody had more luck until I heard that he died of brain cancer, a condition he used to treat.

4. Still amazed the censors let them name his character "Boner"
I mean, I know back in the, uh, early 1900s it meant "bone-headed mistake" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Merkle#The_Incident ) but I think by 1985 its primary meaning was understood to be "erect penis."

5. No kidding!
I remember hearing "boner" used as, well, a boner, in the late '70s in middle school.
