Did anybody else here spend their summers on Hampton Beach, NH
Three generations of memories now reduced to a pile of burnt debris after a fire took down the Surf Hotel, the Happy Arcade, and several gift shops including THE candy store.
Some of my memories.

earliest pic I could find of me at Hampton Beach

above most recent I could find

above taken at casino about three years ago

above taken in 96' at the casino, notice my glow? I had just lost my virginity that week

more pics

my nephew saying grace at Hampton......his grace...."you are all my best friends"

above: generations of RP family at the old cottage

1. I stayed at Ashworth by the Sea in 2007.
Just a bit north of The Surf Hotel. The Surf looked seedy, but the candy store was great. The Arcade was popular too. Those old wooden buildings are fire hazards. The old part of Ashworth would have incinerated quickly.

3. I grew up about 10 miles away
I lived in Kingston while growing up. Later, I worked for Bob Preston's gubernatorial campaign; since Bob lives in Hampton Beach and had his business in Seabrook, I spent a lot of time in Hampton.

It was a shame to hear about the Happy Hampton. I wasted many a quarter on Tempest in that place!

6. I did.
A historic landmark is now ashes. NH really got it last night. I live in Manchester, about 50 miles from the coast. We got 60 mph winds and rain, rain, rain. I took a drive around town today and alot of streets were closed because of downed trees, most of them venerable old Maples and Pines. Sad. We're not used to this stuff.

My family was poor, so we only had a day at Hampton Beach every year, but that one day meant so much to me. To see these fires take place there is heartbreaking.

7. I know what you mean
we had three families....all my aunts and cousins etc. all in one cottage, even if someone died.....every last RP made it back to the beach. We used to stay at Milbrook. It is just so sad.
((((hugs))))

8. Love the place. I've spent time there, though not whole summers.
When I was a kid, went on vacation there with my parents and they took me to see Paul Revere & the Raiders at the Casino. I also had fun playing ping pong up there. Then a few years ago my boyfriend and I saw a great Jeff Beck concert, also at the Casino. Played some pinball, which is hard to find around these days. Do you know if the Casino was involved in the fire?

10. Oh yeah
Up there all the time in the summers...last summer I took to riding my bike between Hampton and Salisbury...I have to eat at Browns a few times during the summer or it feels like something's missing :) I'm gonna miss the Happy, my favorite place for Skeeball!
