WANTED: Someone who will adopt and love my psycho white cat
But, you must agree to have her as your ONLY CAT or else all will be lost. I adopted her while living in NYC, but she has not merged well with my husband's cat, nor the two other strays we've taken in. When I got her, the shelter said she needed to live in a household with only one cat. Well, I got married, my husband had a cat, we moved to rural Virginia where several other cats attached themselves to us, and my white girl, Clarisse, just HATES THEM. She chases, scratches, terrorizes, and if I get in the way, I'm hamburger meat, too... she wasn't this way at all when I first got her, when she was the only cat.

Now, it would break my heart to get rid of my baby, but if someone here (or someone you know) would love her, and only have her as their cat (I honestly don't know how she'd be with a dog), and would agree to love, honor and cherish her, I'd be happy to hand her over.

Any takers? Any suggestions? Nothing, literally NOTHING I've tried has worked, and I'm tired of having shredded hands. I've introduced many, many, many cats to one another, and they usually all mellow out, but after 5 years, I don't think Clarisse is going to mellow at all...

I'll hang on to her if I can't find anyone, but my other kitties are just not happy campers with Clarisse around. Wah!

1. Why don't you try isolating her?
I have a lot of cats, and they are divided into 4 groups around the house because they just won't get along. I have a huge tomcat who terrorizes the tiny ones, and they are separated by a locked door.

As long as they get attention from me and my dh, they all do just fine. And a single room isn't bad for a cat as a living space - it's better than outdoors and better than being harassed by another cat.

Make the room or rooms 'bigger' for the cat by building up vertical space. Add tall scratching posts and 'cat condos', place boxes or chairs so the cats can get up high and back down again easily.

I admire your effort to find a good home for your kitty, but please remember that changing homes is very stressful for a cat and can permanently affect their personalities.

2. When we move, we might just do that, but at the moment,
we don't have an appropriate space. We isolated her when we lived for a short while in an apt. in Atlanta, and she absolutely demolished the room: ruined carpet, pee everywhere, clawed walls, you name it.

I'm thinking of opening a small business and she'd be a great office cat (though I'll have to watch out for customers!).

But I'm also not completely averse to finding her a good home. Though, there are so many cats who need one, that alone makes me feel guilty for trying to relocate her.

3. I too live in a house divided
and that was at the recommendation of my vet who said she knew of many people who did this.
One cat stays in one bedroom at night and goes out in the day. The other, elderly cat has the rest of the house which is her domain day and night.
I took in a young stray but she wanted to terrorize my elderly cat and getting along was not happening at all.
Elderly cat is miffed knowing there is another cat somewhere in the house, but they are all safe and loved. It is working out.

That is good advice on fixing up the room. My young one seemed to need cubby holes to hide in so she has access to the closet and other hiding places. Access to a window so they can look out is good too.
