Help me write a song
I'm working on a song about what's happening in the Gulf. So for I've got:

Our Gulf, they're taking it away
Our Gulf, dying day by day

Help me out and give me some lines, basically 12 bar blues.

I'll take it all in and see what we come up with.

Thanks, (PEACE & LOVE)

I will have a go...hmmm

post a recording of the first couple of lines over, like, the first bit of a blues progression. and build it line by line. wld be an interesting little lounge exercise.

3. i had a thought
Edited on Wed May-12-10 07:40 PM by miscsoc
which might be shit.

i'm rubbish at writing lyrics which sound good against music.

but i was listening to some of your music on your site and i thought something that might work in a song on that subject would be some sort of bit of bullshit spoken by some oil industry character, confidently explaining how nothing can possibly go wrong, throwing in a few technical sounding terms etc. like a satirical sales pitch sort of bit to the politicians, and you could play that off against mourning sort of lines like you just posted. Like those lines as a chorus or whatev, and the stuff i mentioned as a sort of spoken/sung satirical verse. or whatever. just an idea.

actually that's pretty crude and half arsed but i think the whole basic idea might work poss w/ the right musical context or poss give you some sort of idea so there you go

4. Wish I could help, my dear Old Creak...
But I am not a song-writer...

I do like your first 2 lines, however!

Good luck!

:hi:

5. I'm better at putting words to music... oh well...
Crude, slick, and rude... pollution from a tube... underwater dramarama worse than something lewd... killing the coast and fishes, while companies count their riches...

great voice and songwriting. i think a bunch of those songs would be better with a bit of overdriven liveish chaoticness (matter of taste) but they are fuckin' gd in the first place

8. expensive wars leave no resource to mend spoiled shores?
look at relevant words in rhymer type packages, stilt and surround with language 'til it flows.

a few nudges

worth/earth life/strife direct/affect/neglect greed/breed/bleed

I recommend an old Linda Ronstadt tune for a little reminiscent inspiration.

Power to the pen that seeks penance for the atrocities of those who think themselves better men. Atonement has yet to occur to them, so good on you for taking it up. Write well.

9. hmmmm
see no evil
becouse it's in deep blue
set fire to the people
who were on the crew
and now its bubbling up from below
and the sea and sand are as black as crows

we have an oil spill in the gulf
british petroleum can't get enough
The greed and the evil drips from offshore rigs
I really really hate those goddamn pigs

see no evil
in the deep dark sea
pumping uncontrollably a bloom of debris
fish floating in silent death
as a sea otter breathes it's final breath (guitar break)

(repeat chorus)

Lets all take a dip in a swimming pool
cause you have to avoid the oceans pull
we can come to our senses a brain overload
or poison the sea for the deep black gold

10. Some Great Stuff Here
I think I'll try miscsoc's idea. Give me a few days and I'll get back. In the meantime, please keep the ideas flowing, and don't ever forget what they are doing to us:)

13. In the style of Calhoun Tubbs
the blues singer on "In Living Color", the television program
as opposed to "In Living Colour", the band.

"That oil spill in the gulf is pretty bad.
I wrote a song about it, want to hear it?
It goes something like this:"

"Off shore drilling sure is messy
soon we'll all be driving
electric cars, ahhhh haaaa
thank you very much."
