i love my girlfriend but she's CRAZY (true story)
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 02:13 PM by southpaw72
here's the story. she just made a down payment on a brand new Honda CRV. very nice. she's a good haggler, too, so she got a decent price on it.

but the problem: she couldn't decide whether she should get the green with tan interior or the black with black interior. green fits her outdoorsy style, is easier to keep clean, less likely to be stolen. but the tan interior = gets dirty, especially carting dogs around all day. OTOH, black looks "cooler," but a black interior gets really hot (again with the dogs), and i'm not convinced it is easier to keep clean. (black interior gets all linty.) so anyways there are plusses and minuses, of course, but it's really no big deal. either way, she's getting a beautiful brand new car, right?

wrong. it turns out this is a really big deal. she stayed up ALL NIGHT last night, flipping back and forth through the CRV brochure, not able to make up her mind.

i tried telling her: either one will be nice. no good.

i tried telling her: flip a coin. she flipped a coin, but didn't like the outcome, then flipped again and again... pretty soon she couldn't remember whether heads meant "green" or vice versa.

then she tried using Viking runestones, which come with a little book that explains what each stone signifies. she found out that it was her "moment to make 180 degree spiritual turn and break through the barriers of negativity that surround her, reconnecting with her Warrior Impulse." unfortunately, nothing about "green with tan interior" or "black with black interior."

now fast-forward to this morning. i have to go to work, she has to call the dealer by 9 to tell them which color she wants. she's had less than 2 hours of sleep, and even that was fitfully dreaming of car color schemes; still can't make up her mind; she's looking desperate!

so desperate times call for desperate measures: i hit upon a new idea. i call it "the dog oracle." i took two different colored dog treats, one green and one black (ok, well, brown, but you get the idea). i put them in front of the dog, equidistant. (she's a good dog, knows how to stay.) then i said, "ok!" and the dog went to the green treat 1st.

she still wasn't that convinced but ended up getting the green. the canine oracle hath spoken!

i know people take car colors seriously, but is that crazy or what?

1. Ummmm....
Were you thinking of marrying this woman? If so, elope. You don't want to have to live with her while she plans a wedding.

3. She could have saved a LOT of trouble by throwing a Tarot spread....
Runestones....Eh!

:7

She'll love it. Green has good Feng Shui. It's the colour of money.

4. Get her high.

Im serious. Get the girl high on something mild...(wine, a little ganja, NyQuil...whatever)

Put on your favorite record and talk about something besides the damn car.

Realize that you are lucky to be alive and that you have both come a long way.

Hopefully by this time she has a better perspective on the importance on a color of a car.

5. My advice:
It's nearly impossible to keep a black cars exterior looking clean. And any dirt, like dust and especially mud, really stands out on black plastic portions of interiors.

You can wipe mud off tan plastic interior material and it looks ok. But you MUST wash mud off black plastic to get rid of all residues, and then you must wipe it with lint free material to get rid of dust. And to keep dust from re-appearing you've got to wipe it down every single day.

Green and tan is much more easily maintained in a "looks clean to me" manner.

12. well to be honest
i'm glad it was only a choice between 2 colors!

(burgundy made an appearance around midnight, but was out of the running by the morning.)

15. The biggest mistake I made was buying a burgundy car. I thought
it was unique because it was the only one like it on the lot. After we took delivery, on the way home my husband counted 24 of the same car (make and model)in the burgundy color. Oh well. Good luck with the new car. :hi:

10. I went through the same thing, but no sleep was lost
At the dealership I was trying to choose between green/tan interior and blue/black interior and I was really tortured. The dealer had the papers for the blue car almost all finished when I switched to the green and he had to start over. Then while he was working on those papers I wanted to change my mind again, but I was too embarrassed to be such a dingbat (and I knew I might easily switch back again anyway) so I kept quiet. I got the green car, and then I spent the next 2 days asking people repeatedly what they thought of the color. I ended up happy with the choice. :-)

18. Tell her I said she made a BIG mistake....
Tell her to call that dealer right away and tell him that she changed her mind but she's not sure yet what she changed it to.

Just kidding!

19. Very simple
You said "she flipped a coin, but didn't like the outcome." Whatever that outcome was, she should choose the other, since that's what she's really hoping for.

P.S. I like green and tan. :)

20. Tell her to flip a coin....
And call it in the air. Whichever one she calls is the color she wanted. It doesn't matter what the coin toss comes up.

23. Weird-o-rama
When I bought my car, for one thing, I'd quite literally done a year of research on it before I made the decision (I test drove it almost a year to the day before I bought it). Then I bought their bait-&-switch ad car...you know, the one they advertise for a ridiculously low price just to bring people into the dealership. They have to, by law, have at least one car that they actually sell for that price, and when you pick that one, you buy it exactly as it is...no choosing colors or options. The color was completely irrelevant to the purchase decision for me; I wanted that price.

So not all women spend hours agonizing over car paint. Paint can be changed, anyway.
