It's a celebration of life, not a present grabbing opportunity. If you feel the need to do something, make a donation in the child's name.

For just a religious ceremony it would be nice to acknowledge the event with a card and a small gift however.

If the family has some big after-party planned however and you attend it there may be an expectation that most guests will bring gifts of more substance or cash.
