Co worker of mine to another co-worker loudly in a crowded clinic: "I asked (my name) about it but she didn't do anything about it".
Problem here: Loud co worker NEVER approached me about the the "it" she referred to. My guess is that she didn't realize that I was in the next room within hearing range when she slammed me---to the point where she MADE UP a scenario/conversation.
When I approached her a few minutes later and said calmly, matter of factly "so which patient was this about and I don't recall having a conversation with you about that patient" she looked somewhat stunned that I was approaching her about her very public, loud accusation.
She pulls the "how dare you ask me this..in a area where there are people are walking by..."
We then end up in the manager's office where she gets all doe-eyed, at first denying her initial comment, then realizes she may need to 'fess up to it, especially after she realizes she has manipulated the manager into focusing on my approaching her and seriously down playing her slanderous comment. I even told the manager "the problem here is, she made the comment and then panicked when it dawned on her that I was within earshot".
Spineless manager (you know, the kind that start avoids anything head on with a pathetic "wellllllll") still defending co workers comment---"you misunderstood, you took it the wrong way, she meant no malice". The kind of meeting where people in the room are BOTH looking at you like you're the one who did the bad deed and they look collectively satisfied with the scolding they are giving you.
I just wanna scream. I don't even want to see their faces tomorrow. Especially the co-worker. Onlyt thing keeping me going is I've seen karma in action repeatedly over the years, be patient and you end up on the right side of it while the other person looks like they don't know what hit them.
(sigh) ranting in a post that will hit the archives tonight but I felt the need to vent.
