Worst. Calls. Ever.
http://www.salon.com/life/feature/2010/06/03/worst_calls_ever_slide_show/slideshow.html

Surprised that even in the comments there's no sign of idiot Bears fans whining over the 1989 "Instant Replay Game."

Majikowski never crossed the line of scrimmage. Get over it, morons.

1. France v. Ireland
Martin Hansson and his crew missed two offside players and a double handball by Thierry Henry.

3. I am still unreasonably pissed about that result
I think Blatter/Platini's handling of it incensed me even further.

10. Argentina v. England - the infamous "Hand of God" goal
I love Argentina, I admired Maradona as a player in his prime, but that was so blatant, I can't believe he got away with it.

4. The rule is where was the ball
The ball was over the line of scrimmage before it was released, it does not matter where his feet were. If the line of scrimmage were the goal line, he would have scored a rushing TD because the ball broke the pane. As it was, it was an illegal forward pass missed by the refs.

24. That may be the case now, but not in 1989.
In 1989, officials looked at where the QB's feet were. IIRC, the Instant Replay Game was the catalyst for changing the rules on illegal forward passes to what it is today.

He fumbled the ball well short of the goal line, but they gave him a TD anyway.

12. Sacramento is still seething over Game 6 of the 2002 West finals
not a single call, but a parade of garish purple 'n' gold jerseys to the free throw line that cost the Kings their only shot (for the foreseeable future, at any rate) at an NBA title.

yet it ended the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals in favor of Dallas (stole team from hockey-mad Minnesota) over Buffalo (bedrock hockey town). :grr:

15. Nothing beats the 1998 NBA Finals...
Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 03:59 PM by Drunken Irishman
Three blown calls.

Call #1: Howard Eisley hits a three clearly BEFORE the shot clock expires. Refs wave it off.

Call #2: Ron Harper hits a three clearly AFTER the shot clock expires. Refs allow it.

Call #3: Michael Jordan, on his famous last shot, shoves Bryon Russell to the ground, an obvious offensive foul.

Three bad calls. If only one of those calls didn't happen, Utah wins the game and forces game seven.

16. I take it you missed the WCF in 2002?
The officiating redefined bullshit, even by the NBA's terribly low standards.

18. No. I watched...but 1998 still sticks in my craw...
Because there was just a string of horrible calls that could never be justified.

Especially that last one. If it were any player not named Jordan, it would've been a push off and an offensive foul. But they let it go.

It also bugs me that the Bulls were allowed to play illegal defense the entire whole goddamn mother fucking whore series.

Can you see I'm still not over it yet? haha

22. Michael Jordan *always* pushed off.
There was no fighting it, as the NBA decided they were going to ride his popularity to $$$, and it never got called. Look at Michael sideways and you got a defensive foul called, however.

Being a ref in the NBA is equal to working the Bunny Ranch. We all know what they do in there to earn their money, but no one wants to call it what it is.

23. True enough...
And the NBA was not going to allow that series to go seven because they knew if it did, Utah would most likely win.

Jordan was thought to be done and they had to have him go out a winner.

I hate the Jazz but they would have won that game if not for those bad calls.
