I got a new roof yesterday.

10 guys laid 22 square of shingles and installed all associated vents, boots and flashing in about 10 hours.

When I was 19, I helped my uncle do roofing jobs. I could carry about 75 pounds of shingles up a 3 story ladder all day, no sweat.

When I was 31, me and a friend built his house. The roof was hand laid out rafters, not trusses. We used to get up on this rigged up scaffolding to set the rafters, then we laid the shingles ourselves.

I would have done my own roof now, but at age 51, I start crying, and then I vomit, when I get on a step stool.

2. My Grandfather built our cabin over 40 years ago.

and he did everything by hand,cept for the mixing of the cement. He used a mixer run by a generator. But all the rafters and 2x4s he cut by hand and pounded the nails by hand. From laying the foundation to shingling the roof. He did this on the week-ends for years!

He hands are crippled now, and I swear to god it's because he used to do so much manual labor at work and at the cabin.
