Is Hot Tub Time Machine worth a rental?
I missed it in the theater. I see Ebert gave it 3 stars.

1. It was mildly amusing.
One of those, "there's nothing else on, let's give this a try" kind of movies that you expect to hate and end up not hating quite so much.

2. Watched it this weekend with some girlfriends.
It's toilet humor. Some things are mildly amusing IE: The music, clothing and references to the 80's.

Unless you are a big fan or porky's or American Pie style movies, it sucks.

3. I think I'll pass then
I was hoping for something more like Animal House or The Hangover, not Porky's and American Pie.

4. No
But if it's 2 a.m. and you're drunk and flipping channels, it's fine for ten minutes. It just has to be the right ten minutes.

6. He was in a really good mood.
I love Rob Corddry and John Cusack (still not at all sure why he did this movie), and we went knowing it was probably going to be bad, but there were less good moments than there should have been. It was in no way endearing, but Rob Corddry, once you got past the Shakes the Clown feel his character had, was pretty good.

7. Yeah, Corddry was the main reason I wanted to see this
Maybe I'll give it a shot. Sounds like I need to get good and drunk first, something I don't do much anymore.

8. Chevy Chase played an oddly enjoyable character
But, that's no surprise.

You don't have to get drunk. Just expect nothing, and when you find yourself laughing, it will be a pleasant and unexpected surprise.

Because I care: I wouldn't spend more than $5 for the rental, if I were you. :)

10. I'd say yes, but I guess I'm in the minority here.
I thought it was very funny, with an interesting premise. Sure, it's a dumb movie, but I was thoroughly entertained.

11. Funny you should ask. I just saw it last night on demand.
It was ok. I watched it because I'm a sucker for time travel movies. I assumed it would be light and silly (and not a great time travel movie), and I was correct. There were some funny moments, but not as many as I would have liked. But there were enough funny parts, plus fun bits of '80s culture, that I don't feel like I wasted my time watching it. Lots of '80s music, leaning heavily toward hair bands.

Someone here called it closer to Porky's than The Hangover, and I disagree. I'd say it was more of a third-rate Hangover-type movie. Your mileage may vary.
