DU ham radio operators: Morse Code made CNN news tonight. (@)
Take heart. Seems that Morse Code is not dead. There is a new character, the @-sign. I read an article about it in the latest issue of QST. I think the Morse character combines "a" and "c" (@ being an "a' wrapped with a "c") to yield dit-dah-dah-dit-dah-dit. I wonder when W1AW code practice transmissions will include the @ sign.

1. Interesting, but why?
If the sender has to key in two letters, A & C, why not just key in A & T and eliminate the need for a new symbol? .-.-.

2. It's keyed as one symbol
No pause between the A & C.

5. The "@" symbol use must be fairly ubiquitous in CW communications.

Otherwise, I would have thought another prosign would do (A-T or A-C). I have given my e-mail address (but only a Hotmail address in the clear) on PSK-31 a few times, and on my SSB HF nets a couple of times. I have never given it on the air by CW. Let's see, where is that straight key?
