Portuguese bread from Bridgeport, CT (think French, but chewier), Mid-Atlantic scrapple (with the VT maple syrup kept at the opposite end of the store :P ), Chicago Vienna Beef hot dogs, and so on.

15. hamburgers
or the appropriate unrefrigerated shelf ingredients
root beer, and other sodas
as mentioned, watery cheap beer
all the usual snacky junk
canned creamed corn

if it was upscale we could get into some regional good eating but I'm picturing the dusty two shelves of Ethnic stuff (read Mexican and generic Asian) at my small-town stores.

30. I'm glad to see that this thread seemed to take a turn away from...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
...what started out as a kind of self-loathing "Ugly American Diet" listing
into mostly interesting references to tasty "ethnic" offerings that we do
have as a nation that might justifiably be categorized as "American".
.
Not a nationalist in the least -- but that also means I'm not a nation cynic,
either.
.
.
.
Has anyone mentioned the Midwestern specialty of jello molds or ambrosia?

31. Do you use the dots in your post to make them more visible
And more likely to be read? Since they take up more screen space.

And where did you learn that technique?

32. Several reasons, mostly.
.
.
.
.
And in some cases, it annoys people and they'll be less likely to read them.
.
.
That's OK.
.
.
Sometimes, I do it for comedic timing.
.
.
.
.
Sometimes, for invisible punctuation (emphasis).
.
.
.
.
Personally, I've found little snippets easier to consume and digest
than a solid block of words or wall-o'- words in a post.
.
.
.
.
And I'm a HUGE fan/advocate/believer in the use of negative space
in art, communication, and design.
.
.
.
.
WHERE I learned it? Here, there, everywhere -- kinda osmosis over
time and experience.
.
.
.
And I INVENTED the period. I get a royalty every time one is used.

Just teasing about that last part.

I, like Kali, also like your posts (for the most part) and think they
reflect an extremely nice, kind person.
.
EXCELLENT choice of avatar in Burgess -- helps reinforce that kind image.

it's sugar syrup, same as Aunt Jemima's and many others.

35. They actually have those here in the UK in some places.
It seems to be: maple syrup, Aunt Jemima pancake mix, Hershey's chocolate, Jif and Peter Pan peanut butter, Kraft macaroni and cheese, and disgusting breakfast cereals like Lucky Charms and Fruity Pebbles.
