http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/08/honda-fit-hybrid-paris-auto-show/

--snip--

The Honda Fit hybrid makes its worldwide debut next month at the Paris auto show and rolls into showrooms next year — except in the United States.

American Honda execs say there are no plans to bring us the four-door compact hybrid because the Honda Insight fills the same segment, according to Automotive News. We couldn’t disagree more. Although the Fit and Insight are of similar size and price, the Fit is a fun car with personality. The Insight has all the pizazz of dry toast. (Jeremy Clarkson called it “Biblically terrible.”) What’s more, the Fit is more practical than the Honda CR-Z hybrid, which is sporty but has just two seats. A Fit hybrid would seem to fill the gap between those two cars...

1. Well, get the Fit then, if you want. I have compared the Fit to the
Civic from the git go and I came to the conclusion that the Fit offered nothing better than the Civic. So I have stuck with Civic (coupe) and probably will (let me see the 2012's).
Hybrid gives some advantage. So get a Prius.

8. I have a 99 Civic that I love, however in comparing I like the way you can configure the
Fit better, and I like the hatchback. I have a Civic coupe. I probably will get a Fit when my Civic dies (whenever that is) but I really want a hybrid. The Prius is great but I'd still rather have a hybrid Fit.

2. I have an 07 fit and I love it...if it were a hybrid I would be out of my mind...

stupid, stupid, stupid move.

they didn't release it in the US as it is now, to begin with, either. Maybe they will change their mind?

Maybe you should write them?

4. I have an 07 Fit as well
I wondered at the time why they didn't make it a hybrid. And, Fit and Insight – apples and oranges. No comparison at all. One is a sportswear, the other is useful.

5. those of us that own one know what a good deal we have...
I have a standard, and it's a fun ride.
My husband is a car geek and knows his stuff. He likes the way it handles. I have the "suggested" type tires on it. Fun.
and...
lots of room and sporty. cute and practical.

My husband is 6'2" -- and he says he's comfortable even on long trips.

i get about 32 average, but I've pulled 40 out of it on long Texas road trips.

Did I say I love it?

7. I have a standard, too
There was only one on the truck so I had to take black. Not my first color choice, but I love the car. I got slightly wider tires when I put new ones on. It handles better. I get 33 to 38 mpg... as adverised.

10. I'm thinking about starting a campaign.
Seriously. I want a Fit so bad (although my Civic is nowhere near dying) and if it came in hybrid (the article says they're selling it elsewhere for the equivalent of $16-17K) I would buy it in a heartbeat.

3. My husband drives Fords and GM products all over Brazil
and Europe and comes home shaking his head because there are some great car outs there that aren't sold here. It's not just the gas savings, but also the handling and pick-up. Of course, people in the rest of the world are able to use a clutch, while Americans apparently can't.

Look at the GM Opel Corsa, I have driven it in South Africa a million times and love it. You can buy it under one name or another almost anywhere on earth. Just not here! You can buy one in Mexico for about $9000. Less than the Hyundai Accent.

I asked a GM executive I encountered through work why this was and he said "GM is already over-exposed in the small car market, SUV crossovers are where we need to be. " and then listed off a bunch of cars from mid-sized to enormous. The only small car GM sells in North America is the Aveo and it is a piece of shit.

90% of the driving I do is driving my ass too and from work, I don't need an Escalade for that.

6. My husband has a 2010 Fit
and just loves his. He test drove a Honda hybrid and really wanted one but liked the Fit so much better. And he still gets really great mileage.
