And finally... a question for you -- you've probably seen some of my posts...
.
.
.
...about coming face-to-face with my mortality recently.
.
.
.
One of the BIGGEST effects is that I'm starting to think less and less
about the negative things in my life... and appreciate more and more
the positive things.
.
.
.
Something MAJOR: Quite recently, I lost touch with a local friend --
a very GOOD friend -- and was starting to become very concerned
that maybe, JUST maybe... he had died (some health issues).
.
.
.
Yesterday, I just happened to run into him at the library. I didn't tell
him what I had been worried about, but inside I was dancing the whole
time we were speaking.
.
.
.
On the very, very, very minor side... I've found a DEE-FUCKIN'-LICIOUS
instant spiced apple cider mix that is both sugar- and sodium-free.
.
.
.
As difficult as it can now be sometimes... my life is fucking GOOD --
ain't no doubt about THAT!!!!
.
.
.
.
.
Here's my question:
.
.
.
.
.
What, in YOUR life, do you have to be thankful about in the last day
or two -- even if it's something some (even YOU) might consider very,
very minor?
.
.
.
Make our day. Make YOUR day. Accentuate the positive.
.
.
.
Take your time... if you're going through a bad spell, it might take
you a little while -- but I'm willing to bet there's SOMETHING that
you appreciate.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Reaffirm, both to us AND to yourself... how YOUR life has been good
in the last day or so.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

2. This is a truly outstanding OP.
I have been thinking about this very subject lately, and this is a good chance for me to put it into words:

1) I've lost 23 pounds since June 29, and I know I will lose more. So, even though I am feeling like shit, I am looking good and people are noticing. When you feel better ABOUT yourself, you tend to feel better than you otherwise would. For this, I am thankful.

2) Yesterday, I removed my heavy glass shower doors, hauled them outside onto sawhorses, and scrubbed them for a few hours until they looked new. I also removed the old caulk in my tub, and re-caulked everything. I was in terrible pain, and I was bleeding all over myself. I ignored the pain and the blood, after reminding myself that some people are so sick, they cannot get out of bed, and that some people do not have the skills to perform maintenance like this.

3) I recently made someone I love laugh so hard, I thought they were going to split a gut. Whenever I picture this person laughing, I feel good. In turn, this person made me laugh just as hard. Making someone laugh means you will always be remembered. I am thankful for the ability to laugh, and the ability to sometimes make others laugh.

Thank you for this OP, MFM.

3. I climbed North Kinsman and Cannon on the same day
A nine hour slog to summit two 4,000 footers in the White Mountains on labor day weekend in one day.

Today, lunch with friends, to wish one of them a happy wedding this weekend. Two towers of micro-brewed pumpkin ale, and Italian sub sandwiches.

For dinner, a thick slab of salmon cooked on a maple plank, with roasted red skinned potatoes, string beans, white mushrooms, and a bottle of Spanish wine, Tarima Monastrell 2007.

At 54, that's not bad.

Life is good.

6. Since Graywarrior doesn't seem to be around these parts much
I'll express envy of your White Mountain hike. I really miss New England, especially at this time of year.
Your meals sound PDG, too!

5. This IS a nice OP!
I've been a little down lately, but you're right, there are good things happening, and they need to be accentuated.

I've been walking a lot more lately, the weather here in the DC area has been nice, the heat and humidity are going away, so walks are nice and relaxing. It's a good way to spend time with my boy who will be leaving for grad school later this year.

One of my other boys is being commissioned into the Air Force on Saturday, and that is a VERY good thing. It's been a long road, and he's worked hard. Air Force Memorial on Saturday morning, will be a very special place and time for us.

My cats and other boys are happy and healthy. I'm going to Ireland with my mom soon, and that will be a good thing for both of us.

Yes, life IS good. It's time to put the sad behind, and look ahead. There is so much ahead. Thanks, MFM. And I'm glad that your friend is well and that you ran into him. :)

7. I now have a nice stash of vicoden?
}(

lots of good things, one of which is my very good friend is feeling better
my other good friend is arriving from Germany in a few weeks (I like your use of co-best friend, may need to copy that, since it pretty much applies) and she is going to fund a trip to Chihuahua that I would otherwise be unable to afford. Some artists suffering down there because of the fucking drug war/state department paranoia generations, so we will go and visit friends and have an in-your-face good time!

Cannery Row By John Steinbeck, one of the best books I've ever read. I highly recommend it. It will get you thinking.
