4. All you have to do is LOOK at the vacuum cleaner to scare our older dog.
And she's a fucking 77 lb Border Collie! The 20 lb Sheltie just barks at the vacuum while it is on.

5. Mine is old too
Edited on Thu Sep-23-10 11:12 AM by The empressof all
Here she is with her "friend"

She's almost 15. She's ok with the machine as long as she doesn't have to walk over or look at the cord

6. Well, by "older", I meant "relative to the younger". She's about 7 or 8.
The Sheltie is 4.

Yours looks really sweet. And 15 is pretty damn good for a dog that large!

7. I know...right?
She's still in pretty good shape for being so old. She runs every day and has a good coat. She's a little on the senile side and has had some episodes of digging in the house but for the most part she's pretty healthy and happy. I wasn't happy when she dug out a bit of our laminate floor and part of our wall. She did that kind of destructive behavior when she was a puppy and now later in life.

8. Loss of bladder control is a major concern, but I know people who have used adult diapers.
It takes a little practice to find the right tail spot, but basically you just cut out a hole for the tail and voila! They will generally fit a larger dog just fine.

9. We haven't had any accidents from her yet
She's in and out all day anyway and doesn't hesitate to let us know if she needs to go out in the middle of the night. We have a few acres with woods....I worry about her finding a spot outside and lying down. That's not a search I'm prepared to make.

10. That's what happened to my grandparents' 18-year-old schnauzer
they went to the cabin and she just wandered off and found herself a spot to pass.

11. Hey, if she's going to go, what more perfect place on Earth could she find to do it?
By "go", I'm not referring to taking a leak. Curling up under a tree is second only to one thing in my list of "ways to die that would be great". The first is, of course, right in the middle of wild monkey sex. As Richard Pryor once said, "My daddy died fucking. He came and went at the same time."
