Nook COLOR e-reader announced

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nookcolor/index.asp

So, how do people like their B&W nooks? I guess this is a response to the iPad, or a way of one-upping the Kindle. Not a bad price, but not great... probably will drop after Christmas, I'd guess.

1. It might be color, but it's still a Nook.
:P

2. they claim you can surf the web with it, do Facebook, Pandora

so it must have a speaker and such... it's a touchscreen instead of that dopey interface the B&W ones have, so that's going to be a huge improvement. Smaller than the iPad -- 7" screen versus 9.7"

EDIT: It has a headphone plug, not a speaker...

3. It's stupid.
The battery lasts eight hours. It's a backlit screen. Basically it's a netbook, not an ereader. Who can read a book in eight hours? You'll have to plug it in to continue reading.

Get the new Kindle. The battery lasts a month on a single charge.

10. I can read a book in eight hours, easily.
But I wouldn't want a reader which is lcd due to eye strain. Battery life isn't a big deal with my Nook as it gets charged about every 7-8 days when used a lot.

Also, Kindle doesn't do epub files--that was a biggie with me (and no sd card expansion).

11. Well good for you.
Not all of us can read a book in eight hours.

12. Sorry
I'm not trying to brag, just say that reading a book in eight hours is entirely possible. Using an ebook makes it faster to turn the pages so that helps a lot.

13. I...um... you do realize that 7-8 days is different from 5-6 hours?
i mean, I don't want to assume that you're stupid, but I do hope you realize that having to charge something every few hours because it's backlit and a power hog is different from charging every week or so because it isn't backlit but uses a different technology that isn't a power hog.

6. I love my Nook but am not interested in the color one because I don't want an LCD.
Same reason I wouldn't want an iPad as my primary e-reader, I read a lot outside.

8. Love me Nook...
sister gave it to me during the summer while I was going through PT and bed rest for a bad back, and it's been great so far. No problems with battery life and I am reading a solid 3 books a week at least. I found a cute cover for it on Amazon so it looks more like a covered book and I pull it out in every waiting room, while waiting in line, etc.

14. I assume color is for the magazines...
how would you read Elle in B&W?

But, I've been reading the reviews of newspaper and magazine subscriptions on both Kindle and Nook and nobody seems all that happy with them. They are cheaper than the dead tree editions, but a lot of content is missing, downloads aren't consistent, and just reading them on that little screen can be a pain.

Having said that, I've had a WiFi Nook for a few months now, and am just pleased as punch with it. I've loaded it with several hundred books and articles, including a lot of stuff sitting on my hard drive, and read regularly. I just hope they get the paper and periodical stuff working better.
