They were doing touch and go's at McClellan AFB. I was at a soccer tournament and we were right in the flight path. :)

14. You can't see it in that photo, but I love the engine turning (jeweling) on the cowling
It's a low-tech approach to mask a multitude of fabricating sins and looks cool.

Very slow and forgiving.

And an excellent trainer for thousands of pilots over the years....

15. My favorite airplane
of all time. My Dad owned this very airplane back in the 70s. I know this one was his by the N number on the tail. He bought it wrecked and we repaired it and put it back in the air.

18. It was fun
It didn't look like that back then, it was white and black and was in duster/sprayer configuration with a 450hp Pratt & Whitney engine and a spray tank in place of the front cockpit. Dad wanted to get out of truck driving and go into the crop dusting biz. He bought the plane, it had been flipped on its back in a ground accident. We repaired the upper wings and tail, hung a new prop on it and re-assembled it.

Dad went to spray pilot school in Louisiana and he sprayed for a season with it then sold it. He couldn't make enough money with it so he had to go back to truck driving. Whoever rebuilt it and put it back to its original configuration did a hell of a job on it. :)
