We're talking about the 164th largest country in the world (approximately 7% the size of the state of Florida) hosting the world's largest soccer competition. A nation ruled by an absolute monarchy where under Qatar's Sharia, it is illegal to show alcohol or be drunk in public. Have they never seen a World Cup before? My kids will be mostly grown by 2018 so I can swallow any residual guilt about leaving them behind. But I was really really looking forward to 2022 when all of them would be grown and out of the house and my husband and I could plan a huge World Cup holiday to celebrate our independence. Not in Qatar we won't!
