Cats Start Barn Fire
GREELEY, Colo. -- Cats are to blame for starting a fire at an old milk barn west of Greeley.

Inside the old barn, the owners had set up a room they called their "cat condo." Heat lamps kept the room warm.

Apparently a couple of the cats got into a fight and knocked over a lamp, starting the fire.

1. And the cats started composure grooming as if to say,
"We meant to do that!"

2. Heating blankets and covered shelter are the way to go...
keeps cats warm and toasty w/o the danger of fire (except for faulty wiring or whatever...)

Poor kitties. Hope the entire place didn't burn down!

6. No.
Stupid milk barn owners started a fire by leaving heat lamps a room full of cats. Glad the kitties all got out alive. Bless their hearts for trying to make their cats comfortable, but gee whiz. You don't leave potentially hazardous objects anywhere where you have cats, dogs, or any other animal that could knock them over.

9. Exactly.
This fire was started by people who left an unsecured heat lamp unattended in a barn full of cats. They should have known this was likely to happen.

8. Keeping your animals warm is commendable, but there is a risk.
I work for a general contractor and we repair a lot of damage due to house fires. We have had a few jobs where the source of the fire was traced to light bulbs being used in dog houses in order to keep an animal warm. You have to be very careful when using a heat source around animals.

11. Marc Gunn must have had a premonition
http://www.marcgunn.com/poetry/2008/04/when-dairy-farm-caught-fire-parody-old.shtml

Here's his parody, "When the Dairy Farm Caught Fire"

Some friends and I in a milkman's truck
Were eating catnip one night
When into the truck a tomcat jumped
His scraggly face gone white.
"What's up", says Tom, "Have you seen a dog,
Or has our milkman retired?"
"Milkman retired? Fft hiss!", says he,
"The dairy farms' on fire!"

And there were toms stretched up and down
Lappin' up the milk on the floor.
"My Cream, Cream!" the farmer cried
As he came knockin' on the door (clap clap)
Oh don't let him in till it's all lapped up
Then somebody shouted Mreow! MREOW!
And we all drank milk till the cows came home
When the dairy farm caught fire.
