Stop in and say hello to Crosby, the new adoptee cat!

"This morning it was 16 degrees, but not for me! Beds rock, by the way. Did I mention that?"

Crosby is a jet-black, five-year-old male who had been hanging around Chez Rat for the last few months. Initially thought to be a feral, we now believe he is an abandoned pet, as his disposition around humans and other cats is the most mellow we have ever seen. He's had a rough go of it (check out his torn ear), but he's in Cat Shangri-La now - no kids, no dogs, lots of room, food, toys, and love. Our other two cats, Weird Harold and Charlie, are fascinated with Crosby and his uber-mellowness - everyone slept together on the bed last night!

3. I have a cat with scrappy ears like that. He spent his first two years as an unneutered male
in the country. vet said he had been in many a fight. I like to think he was the father of 70 kittens or so.

5. That could be an ear tip.
First, thank you SO MUCH for giving Crosby some love and warmth! He's a beauty.

That ear notch on his left ear could be an ear tip that many feral cat caregivers use to distinguish when a cat has been spayed or neutered. Different ways of notching the ears are used in different parts of the country. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the preciseness of the notch makes me think that it probably IS an intended marking.

9. We, too, thought the notch was a mark for "fixed feral," but it's a genuine, jagged tear.
Little man had a few scraps in his day, it would appear.

All the more reason to thank you again for getting him off the streets and into a safe home! May you and the little man have many happy years together!

14. All our adoptees have been ferals, street cats, or rescues.
I've seen notching and tipping of the ear, which is why we thought he was a feral. He is probably the former pet of the loser crew who used to live next door to us. He's a sleepy little dude right now!

28. Great job rescuing a kitty from the streets
I rescued my own cat, Ruby, from the streets when she was a kitten. A neighbor threw her out of her house and left her to fend for herself--until she decided to adopt me! Unfortunately, I didn't get her spayed in time, she had a litter, and I kept one of the kittens (he's now a 17-pound giant baby, Max).

32. Ruby is pretty and has the tabby coloring I'm partial to
because I had a tawny tabby boy, he was a sturdy guy like Max. I love Max's markings- is that called calico tabby?
