Does anyone here have any experience with Restaurant.com?
I looked at the restaurants in my area, and there are a few that I would consider trying (or give as gifts).

There is currently a coupon code for 80% off gift cards. It seems too good to be true, so I thought I would see if any DUers could shine some light on their experience(s).

TIA

1. my daughter and I use it
we have bought several coupons and gone to restaurants we otherwise couldnt afford.

No problems.

The first time we went the restaurant added the tip in and we didnt realize till later and had left a full tip, too. I think they worry coupon users wont tip on the full meal amount so they precalculate the tip. I think this has been the case every time we have used restaurant.com.

3. most coupon/discount users don't leave a tip
on the full total before coupon/discount is used, so I can see why they did that, but they should have told you that they did so you wouldn't double tip.

4. We learned we don't like expensive Spanish Tapas from restaurants.com
It's a good way to try out new restaurants you aren't sure you want to pay full price for.
We use some leftover frequent flyer miles to get coupons.

Beware that they add an 18% tip to the bill automatically.

5. use it all the time with the 80% off
My union along with restaurant.com gives me an offer of 80% off the cost. So I have bought $10 certificates for 80 cents, 80% off of $4. Just make sure that you know how much a person has to spend at each restaurant before buying it. If you know only 2 people will use the certificate and it's a medium priced restaurant, you might not want to buy one where they have to spend $50, but if it's $35 that needs to be spent, that might be ok.

Also you print them right to your computer. And lastly, you can only use one coupon per month, per restaurant.

Have fun!!!

6. Have used a lot. No problems.
Just make sure to check how much you have to spend, and days of the week they are good for.

7. Read the fine print.
I bought a "50 for 20" deal for a local steakhouse, and after I printed it, I saw that you needed a $100 minimum purchase for the deal to be valid.

8. I've used them before w/o any problem, the 80% is about the
maximum in my experience. Like another poster said though, best to read the fine print.

This morning I saw on CBS Sunday Morning (Charles Osgood) a segment about Groupons, though I have never tried them. Link, FYI:

10. I do have a Groupon account, but I have not bought anything yet.
I am noticing many more deals as Christmas approaches.

Welcome to DU!

9. Thank you, everyone! I bought...
3 $50 gift cards and 2 $25 gift cards for only $21!

If you want the coupon code for an additional 80% off, it is: JOY.

One more question: if you only spend $35 on a $50 gift card, what happens to the difference? Are you out of luck, or does it somehow get credited to your account?

14. have a close friend who swears by them
with my money situation, eating out with no coupon or dollar menu just can not happen. and yes i always tip for the full prediscount amount--unless it is the dollar menu at a fast foodie
