I'm thinking of making holiday themed caramel apples
To give as gifts to some people this year.

I'd kinda like to give them a Christmas flavor though. Any suggestions on fun or unique toppings?

I was thinking crushed up candy canes to dip them in, but I'm not sure the flavor would go with caramel.

Any ideas?

1. sound kind of painful
I like plain caramel, but chopped nuts (pecans!) are good too.

2. Red and green M&Ms
Chocolate and carmel go well together. Also, tie the cellophane/wrap with red and green ribbons.

8. Would a candy cane work for a handle?
Do you leave the cellophane on it so it won't get sticky? Candy canes come in all flavors and colors now. I have some life saver flavored ones hanging from the tree right now. Though Mr. Gut has been eating away at them.

6. I think a few of the little snowflake sprinkles would be cute...
without changing the flavor too much. They would be pretty on the red candy apples, too.

7. Sprinkle the tops with shredded coconut - a litte red/green sugar or sprinkles on top of that. n/t
