1. Yes. It was awful!
Sorry to have to break it to you. I never read the book but many people seemed to relate to it so I thought I'd take the easy way to transcendence and watch the movie. Just bloody awful. And I like Julia Roberts. Best thing's the scenery, which is pretty awesome, but hard to appreciate with yor eyeballs ripped out. I've decided to take the long way 'round to transcendence now. Way better.

2. Thanks for the review. My wife and I have seen it listed on video on demand, but
haven't gotten around to watching it.

Now to explain it to my wife, that someone on teh internets said it really sucks!

Well, I did here it on the internets that it sucks so it must suck!

:D

4. I read the book and enjoyed it. The movie was awful.

Parts of the book were quite funny, and there were real messages to be taken away from her experience.

The movie = none of the redeeming qualities of the book. Julia Roberts doesn't bug me, and Javier Bardem is a lovely man ... but that isn't enough when the screenplay is a disaster.

I don't know if the book could have been made into a successful movie with a different script or approach, but this iteration was a waste of 2.5 hours.

7. I was "obligated" to go see it. The kindest thing that I can say is
save your money.

Really, really lame. This movie is a good example of why a number of men hate and despise the genre that has become (unkindly) known as "chick flicks". Interestingly, the person that dragooned me into seeing this POS was so embarrassed by its utter lameness that she was stunned into uncharacteristic silence for a few hours afterwards.

Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 08:23 PM by pitohui
it sounds like a real bore, doesn't it?

a woman wants to spend 3 months eating? and then meditating? and then fucking/excuse me meeting a new dude?

sometimes i wonder if i'm a woman at all because i can't figure out why any one would want to see this, if i wanna see people fucking, i'll watch porn, if i wanna see people eating or meditating...well...trust me...i NEVER wanna see people eating or meditating

12. Loved the book, liked the movie.
Of course a movie version can never do justice to a book you love, but I always enjoy seeing movies shot in beautiful locations.
