Tonight is the Eclipse of the Long Night Moon on the Winter Solstice.
It will officially be the darkest it's been in nearly 500 years. It's all uphill from here, kids!

So, what's your ritual? I'm going to raise a glass of wine, light a candle against the darkness, sing a song about light, or warmth, or sun, or something, eat something sweet, and dance a little!

14. I'm having
cloudy weather both Monday night and Tuesday night, so probably nothing, though I will go outside briefly each night and see if I can find the eclipse.

Muriel and I both seem to think it's Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Everyone else on this thread seems to think it's Monday night into Tuesday morning.

22. some times for fellow PSTers
Mid eclipse is just after midnight at 12:17 am PST (about 3 hours from now) though it's in complete eclipse for about an hour total. The entire eclipse takes about four hours. The bummer is that it's cloudy here. The solstice is tomorrow at 3:38 pm PST.

9. It's dark out right now. Has been for over the past half hour...
The wind is howling outside but I'm snug and warm here by the woodstove. They are calling for 3 to 6 inches to begin sometime overnight, so the moon I'm looking at right now will probably not be visible for the eclipse. Plus, I'll likely be sleeping anyway, so I guess it's best to just enjoy the moment! :-)

I just finished baking some Toll House cookies. Something I haven't done for years, but the cookie smell along w/the christmas tree and garlands are giving off the most delicious aroma!

I guess that's pretty much it for my winter solstice celebration, but it's still a moment in time that I'm enjoying. I hope everyone else has a wonderful one too! :hi:

BTW nolabear, I hope you are enjoying your tree this year. I LOLed at your story of always remembering that fake white tree make the 'zinging' noise you heard as a child. It's funny the things we remember!

13. Your evening sounds wonderful, Crystal. And you'll be glad to know
my cute little tree is aromatic and imperfect and the cat is madly in love with it, threatening to bring it down at any minute. And that's what Solstice should be! Bon Hiver!

and we won't see the moon.

15. I will be joining two couples in marriage tomorrow night on Solstice.
I will be leaving in the morning early for the farm where we have the Solstice gathering.

I do enjoy doing this, great time to get married.

After that we will have a big party in the big hall, yes.

I love this time of year.

Edited on Mon Dec-20-10 10:49 PM by tigereye
I don't think we'll be able to see the eclipse due to clouds, and I don't really have anything planned. I do think it would be really cool to see, though.

Here's a winter song that I really like.

19. I found the full moon.

That's a start. I so far, only have partly cloudy. I guess my ritual for the night is going out at random intervals to see if I can see anything nifty happening.
