1. Likely
by not knowing what you were missing.

Now you know, and you'll be loathe to go back. :D

2. My 2008 New Year's resolution
was 1080HD. :P Should tide me over until the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_%284096%C3%972160%29_resolution">4K resolution revolution. I'm thinking 12 feet diagonal would be about right.

:bounce:

3. That's what I use on my development machine - 27" widescreen monitor w/2nd 19".
It took a little used to the mouse just "going away" when I ran it off the right edge of the screen while the smaller monitor was turned off. I'm okay with that now. The 2nd monitor really comes in handy for extending the real estate, especially when you're doing something screen-intensive like sorting images, which curiously is what I was doing last night - mostly LOL cats and the weird shit MFM posts on DU.

4. So is this on a new monitor, or can one's usual be enhanced?
If this is a completely stupid question, I won't be surprised.

5. I would guess new.
LCD have one native resolution, if you feed them anything else, the signal needs to be converted by hardware in the monitor to convert it to its native resolution. Old school CRTs (like the Sony which I own and love), can usually display a multitude of resolutions (mine can support anything from 640x480 to 2560x1600). Many years ago, if you had a very expensive CRT which was capable of supporting high resolutions, but didn't have a video card capable of outputting such resolutions, you could upgrade your video card to allow those resolutions to be displayed. Now however, almost any video card you can purchase will display up to 2560x1600, so that's really not an issue anymore.
